I was going to say that it's on the Hard Drive.

Really though, the remote is just taped on. Apple would not place the magnet for the remote on the screen,at least I hope they wouldn't.

If you read his comments he says that it is a magnet. I personally think there is something else underneath (like a hard drive) that is causing it to stick there. I mean, that is a horrible place for it. Apple should've left the 1 cent piece on the side.

Why not?

I have three magnets in the screen of my MacBook, two of them (top left and top right) are really for the magnetic latch, I guess, but the third one (middle of the edge, left hand side) looks like it's for the remote.

And for the (old) iMac it's even in the manual (with a warning):

I agree woth you on Apple move. The comment says that it's stuck to a magnet, but I just don't like the way it's sitting, I am untrusting of youtube I guess.:D

I read somewhere else about the screen being held on by magnets...methinks that could be it.

It is, the screen is held by a powerful magnet, im guessing the field is strong enough to attract the remote.

As seen in the Apple iMac late 2007 service manual:

After seeing this picture, I conclude that in the youtube video, the remote is magnetized to the speakers on the lower right hand side. The hard drive is almost dead center, behind the LCD, and it doesn't appear that there are any sort of magnets otherwise (aside from those holding the glass on, which are clearly visible around the edges of where the display would be). Thusly, I believe it's very possible the magnets used in the speakers are attracting the remote.

I believe that the glass is held on by magnets since in the take apart shots they used a suction cup and if you look on the 4th photo you see something that probably is magnets to hold the glass and that is what the remote is sticking to.iMac Take apart

Also I don't believe that the old remote had a MAGNET, since when taking out the battery it doesn't stick at least not on mine.

There are actually three or four magnets on each side of the screen it appears. Run your remote along the black bezel slowly and you can feel the "pull" multiple times, and they are strong enough to hold the remote in a few different positions...

Putting the mysteries to rest

Firstly, to clear up the MacBook confusion: There are 5 magnets in the display assembly of the MacBook as it stands. 2 in each corner of the display assembly act as the magnetic latch which holds the display closed (Apple call these the "display magnet pairs"). The fifth and final magnet is vertically in the middle of the assembly, to the left of the LCD panel. This is the sleep magnet which enables the MacBook to know the lid is shut and it should now go into sleep mode. There is no magnet in them which is designed to hold the Apple Remote to the unit.

Now, the iMac's: The new iMac's do not have a magnet on the inside of the front bezel as the previous generation iMac's did. There is no magnet in them which is designed to hold the Apple Remote to the unit. There are 14 magnets in the machine (sam with both the 20" and 24" variations), all of which hold the glass panel in place. 4 are on the top, 4 on the bottom and 3 on each side. These are the only magnets not built into components (such as the hard drive) in the new iMac Mid-2007. So no, there is not a magnet for designed the Apple Remote.

Hey I never knew that the macbook had a third magnet! That's useful. :)

I believe that this is a sleep magnet meaning that the computer has some kind of sensor on the top case that feels the magnet force comes and therefore goes to sleep.

The ovals around the display that are shinier are the magnets I believe that hold the glass in place.

Edit: houltmac was faster :p

u all are a little on the slow side considering that aluminum doesnt let magnets stick so apple probaly still left the magnet where its supposed to but aluminum on the new imacs dont let the remote stick

LOL... Aluminum is not ferromagnetic, but it doesn't *block* magnets. Go to your kitchen, get a piece of aluminum foil, and test it for yourself with your refrigerator magnets. ;) The magnet can still stick to the refrigerator through the foil. Much like the aluminum casing of the iMac doesn't necessarily preclude the use of a magnet.

Anyway, though, yes, that's an awful looking place for the remote! :(

Neither does plastic but the remote sticks just fine to my MacBook.

That's because there is a magnet behind the plastic. What people are stating is that the aluminium is better at blocking the magnetic field from a magnet than plastic and there fore apple didn't put a magnet on the side for the remote.

Then they should take a materials science course. The magnetic permeability of aluminum is 1. The same as air, copper, tin or lead.

I stated in my original post:

Fact.

This thread is getting funny!! We have went from do the new imacs have magnets to somehow magical aluminum that blocks a magnetic field!!
