It boggles me, why do nutty people on here act like it's the end of the world because their iPhone bezel has a light scratch on it, or the Apple logo on the back has scuff marks (LOL), or the bezel is .00075 inches off center, or there's a hairline crack near the headphone port that you can only see if you hold it up to a UV light... etc. etc. etc.

All these things are cosmetic - NONE of them affect your iPhone's performance and abilities.

I take that back - there IS such thing as a perfect iPhone, or any piece of electronic equipment in general: It's when you FIRST purchase it and take it out of its box. From then on, through everday normal usage, and the laws of nature and life, your iPhone will get scuff marks, scratches, dust, or other undeniable things. Your best bet is to get a case and/or screen protector to minimize such things. I hope people realize how lame it sounds when they whine about things like that. No phone will EVER look the same as it did when you got it, 6 months down the line.

Assuming, of course, that you actually USE IT, and didn't put it in a glass-enclosed museum display.

I don't follow your logic. mine is perfect: no cracks, even bezel, no scratches, good home, sleep, and volume buttons, and a solid vibrate switch. I'm not trying to say you're wrong, maybe just a little cynical. it is possible to have an iPhone in great condition; I got a screen protector and hard case on day one. you gotta keep it protected and safe.

but you're right about people shouldn't complain over every little flaw in the phone. it doesn't inhibit it's abilities so people need to get over it

No, your phone is not perfect - You're telling yourself it is because you've got a case and a protector. Take a high-res up-close photo of the back of your phone, let US be the judge! :D

um the concern is more manufacturing defects than user created defects

Um, DUH.

I didn't list anything that's a "manufacture" defect except for the raised bezel.

But screen scratches, scuffs on the bezel or apple logo, and dust underneath the screen, are NOT cause of the manufacture.

Your one of those guys that makes a thread about how the new "3G" and "E" icons aren't in boxes anymore right? Just be greatful you have the phone. I seriously don't get why a tiny scratch on the bezel warrants a return. I would rather deal with it then deal without the phone while I wait to get a new one. Such of waste of phones. Well at least I know that the refurbs are brand new basically. It's funny how people do this, in fact it's nit just with the iPhone people do it with laptops, computers, etc ALL the time. My dad gets to take home all the supposid "defective" electronics and thus all 5 members of my family have a laptop AND a desktop, just goes to show how the compulsiveness of others benefits me....

uh no i am not one of those guys

grateful i have a phone? why? I am paying for it, no one is giving me a "free" iphone to use... what are you getting at?

granted i have returned my iphone due to the display being non responsive in an area and cracks after a week of using the thing near the silent switch and whatnot.

i have never seen a thread where a scratch on the bezel was the basis for a return...most threads have focused on
1) cracks
2) light leak
3) unresponsive displays

now if i dropped it or scratched it, then owell, my fault obvioulsy

when you pay 300-400 and then 90 a month for 2 years, people want a quality phone that doesnt spontaneously crack for no reason

Um, DUH.

then i do not know what forums you are talking about as i do not see people complaining for returns for defects that they themselves caused. most if not all return threads deal with manufacturing defects from my observation

in fact, i cant recall any thread about returning a phone for damage the user caused. i have seen it for some laptops and the op gets slammed instantly for trying to commit fraud

Dude, the fact that you're whining about this years after the iPhone has been out and since countless others have already covered scolding people about it makes YOU lame.

Also, yes through normal usage things like scuff marks and the like will happen. WE GET THIS. That hairline crack near the headphone port... could grow larger. Might keep you from getting a better sale price later on. A 3GS screen with the oleophobic coating that seems to be easier to scratch than a non coated screen, yeah, that's bothersome... the screen is a BIG part of the iPhone experience. If it gets scratched, it can be noticeable and irritating as you use it. Again, it also may keep you from getting a really good price if you sell it. Same with it getting dust underneath. It would be great if they could design it where it didn't get dust under the screen. Not saying that it's gonna happen but just saying.

Making a separate post about this instead of just getting your rocks off "WITHIN" a post where somebody has made the rant is LAME... YOU ARE LAME, DUDE. Get over the people who are more "anal" about the condition and/or initial build of the iPhone and GET OVER YOURSELF.

You should made your thread months ago, OP. Then we had some real whining about bezels and such. Actually things are pretty quiet in the iPhone forums, IMO (especially after MMS finally came to the U.S.).

Do you have a theory as to why things are quiet here? I guess in January it'll ramp up.

And why is everyone getting on the OP? I don't see why. He's just pointing out that everybody goes crazy with cases and screen protectors. It's called wear and tear.

I take perfect care of my devices. Eventually something happens to it, no matter how careful you are. As much as I would like them to be in perfect condition, that's not always the case.

the right to complain and demand the product works and looks as advertised is with the customer; nobody else has the right to tell them to settle for less

/thread

if you bought a new car and rolled it off the lot to notice a crack in the windshield, would you complain? granted it is "cosmetic" and doesn't affect the "performance" I am sure you would take it back to have it fixed

Hey, you, learn to read... the op DOES NOT point out that everybody goes crazy with cases and screen protectors. You need your eyes checked. Brain checked too, while you're at it.

It's a usable device, its going to get screwed up..
with that said there is nothing wrong with people trying to keep it in good condition.
making this post is even stupider than complaining about a scratch.

btw mine doesn't have any protection it just feels better that way.

Some of you guys are so dense it ***ing blows my mind.

I am not saying there's something wrong with wanting to keep your phone in good condition!!! I keep MY iPhone in good condition too - I have an InCase slider for it and I never put it in my pocket with any objects. The screen looks great after 4 months of use.

I made this thread to say that people on here MAKE HUGE DEALS about tiny scratches and scuff marks that will happen over time, naturally. Folks who are delusional and act is if their phone will look 6 months down the line the same way it looked after unboxing it.

GET OVER YOURSELVES.

Please.... PLEASE add some links to said posts that you've seen regarding normal wear and tear. Since you took the time to start a post that has been visited upon COUNTLESS times before... add some value to your complaint/rant with some examples of the peeps who whine about tiny scratches, etc.

Why do you care? If you don't like to read post such as the ones you're whining about, then don't read them. You have that choice, how about you exercise that choice.

I don't need to prove to u that my phone's in great condition. I know it is, so that's all that matters. and even if it wasn't perfect, I wouldn't care. I don't have to prove anything to you and I certainly don't care if someone on the Internet thinks my phone is worse than their's if it has a scratch.

and I would only be letting you be the judge because you're the only one that cares so much

IDK. Compared to the 3g's I've had my 3gs is pretty darn good. No cracks loose buttons, light leak. And I do not have a screen protector. I use a little leather slip case mainly to keep the lint out of the connector port. After a few months of use I only have minor scratches on the back. These things don't have to be perfect. Mine performs a service for me and does it well. A few dings here and there never killed anyone. Now if the case was cracking I would be a little ticked.

We really have no idea what you're talking about OP. The only complaints I see here are about manufacturer defects, not wear and tear damage. The rare times I have seen someone complain about damage they did, the forum always puts them in their place right there.

So what's the point of this thread? If you're having a problem with certain people complaining about something why don't you report the thread?

Oh, and by the way ... My iPhone is perfect.

My 4th iPhone 3G was perfect!!! I couldn't have asked for a better phone, but since I've gotten it, it has cracked, scratched and does not look new anymore. You know what though? I can't get mad because that's wear and tear... I'm just glad it was perfect when I got it.
