Apple doesn't 'clarify' that it's not making something often. And it's not a trick, where they later say 'we said no 27 inch iMac, but this is a few inches bigger!'

They could not be more clear. Get a Studio Display and a mini for the new regular 27" iMac experience, and get a Mac Studio and a Studio Display for the iMac Pro experience.

They got away from Intel, and with improved chips they don't need to make an AIO that replaces pro desktop users anymore—clearly this is the direction it is going, and the iMac stays at 24", pretty marginalized.

Life is long, and things could change—but this is the way things are for at least the next 4-5 years. Plan accordingly.

They definitely weren’t clear there wouldn’t be a bigger iMac, they just said there won’t be a 27”. Maybe they will clarify and say so but they haven’t yet.

But I also wouldn’t be surprised if they didn’t considering they discontinued it without a replacement and they never once updated the iMac Pro before killing it.

The 5k iMac was phenomenal value but we just have to accept that it will not be replaced and even if it was the price would be a lot higher going off the price of the studio display. I bought a 5k iMac refurb at the beginning of the year and don’t regret it one bit. I expected a replacement to be at least a year away at a much higher price, if there was one. If you can still find a refurb I recommend it, or even a new model.

I just hope they keep around a 27” and 32” display for the long haul.

Apple was very very clear. They said no more 27" machines. They were clear there will not be another 27" machine. They gave themselves a lot of wiggle room to give us a 32" or larger machine. Apple could have said:

"We currently sell an 24" iMac. We do not have plans to make a machine of a different size". They did not. They only said "we will not make a 27" iMac".

This is the desperate wish fulfillment I'm trying to say is simply desperate wish fulfillment.

I believe I have read somewhere that the new M3 iMac will support an external monitor. Can’t you Power Users simply add a 27” SD and have a killer 2 Monitor setup ?

I won't be buying one, but I still sense there's a possibility Apple may be working on an iMac "pro" (perhaps with mXpro CPU) and a display 30-32". Perhaps @ 6k.

Not ruling it out entirely within the next 1-2 years.

If by then, nothing appears, then I'll agree with you that the time of iMacs larger than 24" ... is over.

The only monitor that could replace the 5k iMac display is a studio display and if you’re getting that why get an iMac? Just get a $1300 Mac mini that beats it for the same price as the iMac. I personally don’t care for dual monitor setups and just want a 5k or higher single display.
