A lot of media are still calling it the iPhone "13" but I am 99.9% certain we will never have an iPhone 13; I would bet money on it. The 2021 iPhone will almost certainly be called the 12s, and there's been some indication from certain leakers that this will be the case. With the 2022 model I would expect a new naming scheme entirely, possibly a yearly one similar to the galaxy S series. I'll also predict that the 2021 iPhones will stick to the current 4 form factors (5.4 inch mini, 6.1 inch standard, 6.1 inch pro, 6.7 inch pro max) but that the 2022 models will change things up. I could see Apple reducing the bezels further, and thus increasing display sizes on each model whilst retaining similar size footprints.

Would be curious as to others predictions on the 2021 iPhone name.

I can see Apple keeping the current 4 models carried forward, 5.4" Mini, 6.1", 6.1" Pro and 6.7" Pro Max. Keep the iPhone 12 at $599 (not sure about this as it might cannibalize the 5.4" mini), iPhone 11 at $499, iPhone SE 2020 $399. Guesses on colors for the new models? I am thinking a new copper color will be added.

That would be pretty nice. Would also love a proper metallic Green, similar to the one on the one plus 8.

Can you share who claimed what?

I personally think 13 is going to happen. Numbers mean nothing and we did have iOS 13 too.

I have a hunch they'll just call it iPhone 12S.

And I have a feeling that they'll completely refresh the naming scheme once they release that port-less iPhone, to which they'll call it just 'iPhone.'

Jon Prosser, Sam Kohl.

I think people here very much underestimate how many millions of people in the west have a fear over the number 13, the IOS number doesn't matter as much, but spending 1000 on a new phone does. It's about time for a new naming scheme anyway.

After the 12S, they need to change the naming scheme to designate what year the iphone was released like the Galaxy S series or like 'iphone 2022 edition' etc.

I don't think they'll ever just call it "iPhone" a name without some sort of convention will confuse the average consumer, and won't encourage annual product identity or annual upgrades (which is what apple wants everyone to do) such a simple name works with cars or laptops, but with a product like a phone I don't think so. My guess is they will just follow Samsung's lead and put the year number in the name, that way people will know exactly when their phone was created. It makes way more sense to have iPhone 21 and 22, than iPhone and iPhone.

Agreed. Exactly my thoughts.

Sorry but they shipped iOS 13 to all these customers as well. You don’t see a 13 either way.

We’ll see it when it arrives but I don’t think the number is unimportant in software and all of a sudden relevant in hardware releases.

I think, it will be iPhone 13. However, I would have no complaint if Apple switch the iPhone to the yearly reference, e.g. iPhone (2021j. Seems to work fine for Macs. Although, maybe they could do reference by generation, such as that used by iPod and iPad. Actually, Apple should switch them all to yearly reference.

It's relevant when you're paying 1000 for it, which you're not for an IOS update. IOS 13 lasted for a year, and you can easily refuse to update to it, where as people on average hold on to their phone for 4-5 years. If there's enough people who will refuse to buy a device called "13" because of the number then apple won't use that name, its that simple. Indeed we will see, but I am confident we will never see such a device.

I agree, it would make sense and would simplify the line up across the board.

We also had a 6, and the world didn’t stop turning. In hardware and software.

My vote is on iPhone 13. Seems like Apple want to step away from the S branding as it is better for marketing to keep increasing the number every year.

4 is the worst number in many Asian cultures, yet Apple didn't have a problem with iPhone 4 and 4S.

Personally I think society today is modern enough that most consumers no longer associate those superstitious numbers with gadgets/tech.

I look forward to being proven right in 7 months.

We had iOS 13 and MacBook Air / Pro 13, so there can definitely be an iPhone 13. That said, it would be interesting to see if Apple changes the naming scheme for iPhones, probably just call them iPhone mini, Air, Pro and Pro Max.
