I have seen apps (sit or squat) for finding public restrooms, apps that tell me where local atms are located, etc.

But I have not been able to find ANY apps via the app store's search function that tells me where public payphones are located. Yes, I know that the iPhone is a cell phone and public phones are dinosaurs, but sometimes, a payphone is just the ticket.

Why is there no app for that?

Seriously though, why would you need an app for that when you're holding a phone in your hand? (I guess for those who have iPod Touches?) 99% of public phones I have run across recently are either removed, or out of order.

Here is a solution if you only have an iPod Touch and no cell phone; ask the person next to you.

I really don't remmember the last time I have seen a pay phone in Raleigh, NC. I saw some when I was in NYC. I guess the app would be useful to iPhone users in NYC who don't get AT&T reception :)

In order to do that, an app would need to access some kind of database showing where payphones are. I have no idea if telephone companies keep such a database, and if they do, they aren't likely to share it with a random app developer.

Maybe he means cost, someone was telling me the other day you can get 40 minutes for 20p (30 cents) on a pay phone now, in the UK that is anyway. Cheaper if you have run out of minutes and want to make a long call!

Clear out your history after you made the call.
He just said that if he cleared out his history of calls, he'd catch a lot of crap from the girlfriend. I can understand what that's like.

Email might work as a workaround. Cumbersome when a call is so much faster, but there's pretty much no demand for a payphone locator, and I wouldn't want to go searching for a payphone...

This whole thread makes me giggle (flowers dude? Seriously?). It reminds me of the kid who always posts in any thread about what features they'd like to see in the next rev of the OS, who without fail pleads for the ability to remove singular calls from the call history. Payphones exist for three reasons these days 1) Extortion (as mentioned above) 2) Drug dealing, and 3) cheating on your girl (the most common by far)

Dude, just put your other girl in your contacts list under the name of one of your same sex friends that she hates. That way there's no chance she calls the person by mistake. It has the double bonus of hiding the identity if they txt you (oh and turn off the txt preview- It will look really weird if your drinking buddy from college is sending you steamy txts).

Note, this assumes that the person you're trying to conceal your conversations with is a girl. This will work with guys too, but it might be better to just have a long and frank conversation with your girlfriend if that's the case.

BTW- The other possibility is to use the Skype app. If you can afford to swing two ladies, you can afford 2c per minute.

Actually, there was an app along those lines that was never approved.

Check out www.MyNewber.com. It was featured on Planet of the Apps on CNBS in January. I actually met those folks at CES 2009... they had a petition back then to ask Apple to approve or respond.

This app was very cool. You could transfer your cell call to a pay phone or work phone without the user noticing anything. Great for commuting to work and switching to your desk phone on the fly. Also if you are running low on batteries, you could pull in to a restaurant, etc., with a payphone and stay connected.

Apple never approved it, presumably because it would avoid using AT&T minutes. Shame... it was a cool app/service.

If I found my girlfriend was checking my call history I wouldn't buy her flowers, I'd tell her to move out!
