Apple's iPad ordering page now says you can choose $30/month Unlimited as long as you order it by June 6th.

I called Apple an hour ago.

(Quick run-down)

Me: "How can I be assured that I'll be enrolled in the Unlimited Data plan, if I don't physically have my iPad in my hands before June 7th, when the new plans take over?"

Apple rep: "Well, I'm seeing the same thing you are. That if you order by June 6th, you'll be grandfathered into our Unlimited plan."

Me: "But my question is how can I BE SURE? Is there some guarantee or voucher we'll receive? Like I said, we cannot choose any plan prior to receiving our iPads, so if I receive mine on June 8th, where will I be offered the Unlimited plan? That seems impossible."

Rep: "... Uh, well... uh..."

I thanked him for his time. WTF is going on here? Another case of the left arm not knowing what the right arm is doing (AT&T and Apple).

Likely your receipt for the order. It serves as proof you ordered and paid for it prior to the data rate changes. I imagine presenting that receipt is proof enough to not be denied.

This whole situation is getting ridiculous and seems very unplanned. ATT needs to sort all of the terms of this crap out before the weekend.

They enter the information about your iPad into the system with AT&T before they ship it out which contains the IMEI code of your iPad (SIM card). They'll know if you order before June 6th. The OS contains the code that checks the ATT servers for the plans available to the user using your IMEI code.

The Apple lady told me that we need to be in posession of the iPad by the deadline or we won't qualify, no matter what the website said...

See what I mean!?

Somebody needs to really really not mince words with AT&T rep, or Apple rep, and CONFIRM that people who order theirs by 6-6 will indeed, without a doubt, be grandfathered into Unlimited.

The guys above bring up good possibilities, but I'm not ordering until it's confirmed.

Anybody wanna take one for the team and let them know about the different replies we're getting on this?

You've gone from wanting to sue AT&T, to wanting to make sure you're getting their most expensive data plan?

And don't mistake "grandfathered in" as some kind of guaranty you'll get the $30/unlimited plan for the rest of your life. For all anyone knows, that means for the next 90 days only. You aren't going to get that deal FOREVER so don't count on it.

If their website induces you into buying something with a false representation then you would have good grounds for a full refund for the device. You likely couldn't force AT&T to provide a certain service due to incorrect statements made by another company.

Are you sure about that? I was grandfathered in for an old package deal on voice line and texts , since they've changed pricing , I have yet to see changes on my bill and I'm not even on a contract since 2006 , as long as it's continuous with no over lapse you should be able to keep your unlimited data for $30 , I never heard of a phone company change pricing out of no where on a current " grandfathered in" customer for data plan with or without contract

How "can you be sure" the sun will rise tomorrow? blah blah blah. It says so, good enough. Sheesh!
