Good day. This may sound stupid but I need some help hehehe. On the thermal Pad that comes with the angel bird wing PX1, do you need to remove the gray strip or leave it to make contact with the M.2 SSD card. I am having trouble in removing the gray strip. I can only remove the blue side of the thermal Pad. Thank you.

Thermal Pad on Angel Bird PX1

One side of the thermal pad is slightly 'tacky', the other side has a removable plastic strip/film on it that protects the 'sticky' side of the thermal pad. You'll know which side is which since as soon as you take off the strip/film the damn thing sticks to anything it touches.
The 'tacky' side goes against the SSD, the 'sticky' side goes against the heat sink. I used both thermal pads on my PX1, one under the SSD and one on top of it. The one under the SSD should be stuck to PCI-e card, within the markings/lines that are provided.
So....the short answer to your question is that there is only a strip/film on one side of the thermal pad that needs to be removed.!

The side of the thermal Pad that is blue is sticky and it can be remove easily but the other side gray is smooth and shiny is the part I can't remove. From what your saying billybobbongo that film colored gray should stay to contact with the M.2 SSD.

It was fairly difficult to remove the film from the grey side on my recent PX1 purchase, but the film on both sides needs to be removed. You may want to take a small sharp knife and see if you can lift from any of the corners.

I got a reply from Angel Bird with regards to the thermal Pad and it says
thanks for reaching out. For the thermal pads packed with the Wings PX1 it is sufficient to remove the blue plastic sheet to expose the white, sticky material. The other side is covered in a grey/pink material which is part of the thermal pad but reinforced with glass fiber to ease handling.

I am confused....
I removed both sides of the film, per the included instructions. Installed EVO 970 1TB in PX1 and has been operating perfectly fine with 10.13.6 (17G3025) with the 140.0.0.0.0 firmware update in authentic Mac Pro 5,1 (mid-2012). DriveDx reports no issues and I have not observed any issues. Using as my main boot drive. Formatted HFS+. Was cloned via Carbon Copy Cloner from a SATA SSD via PCIe adapter (Velocity Solo X2).

it makes no difference at all. The grey or pink side behaves same as the white, just less sticky. From the standpoint of removing the thermal pad again mounting it the way you did is actually better.
