I read somewhere on tuaw.org that the guy brought his MBP to the genius bar, told them of the over heating and metioned the thermal paste, and they reapplied it for him? Is this true? Do Apple stores that offer in-store laptop repair reapply the thermal paste for you?

I seriously doubt that. Disassembling your entire machine all the way down to the CPU, etc... is not a repair that Apple does at the stores.

The one at the Bullring in Birmingham, if you go in at 9-10am, it's usually empty and starts getting busy at 11am. The are very helpful and took my iMac apart as much wasn't going on. I guess they would take a MBP apart and redo it, I've seen it done, takes 5 minutes to take apart, 10 minutes to put back together once you know how.
