Hey all, doing some upgrades on my 2010 macmini. I recently replaced the optical drive for an SSD, as well as the original hdd for another ssd. In the process, i would had to transfer 3 thermal sensors.

As you may know, turning the mini without sensors makes the fan go maximum speed. However, I hate gluing stuff to my ssds. I even plan on upgrading the ssds in the future as they are small capacity at the moment. So i am wondering...

The sensors have tape on their edge. Can I "close" the tape around the sensor and then leave it plugged to the logical board? From my point of view, the mini will read temperature on the tape, which i believe will not make the fan loud

And also, is this safe? Will the sensor catch fire being evolved by the glue on the tape?

You will be fine ... there will be no fire. :)

The sensor will continue to monitor "ambient" air around the sensor. If you wanted to, you could even use a little Scotch Tape and tape it to your SSD, but I doubt it will make any difference. The fans just need the thermistor sensor to be attached to be happy.
