If I am listening to music on my iPhone, why does it switch automatically to a Mac when I start using a Mac while the iPhone was still playing music.

It makes no sense to switch the Airpods from the iPhone to a Mac when the iPhone is still playing music to the Airpods.

This bug really makes me want to buy something else than an Airpods.

If you go to Settings > Bluetooth. When your airpods is connected, tap on the i. Then you should set it to "When last connected to" Just as the link above says so.

Ok thanks, I guess I will disable the auto switching feature untill someday Apple implements this feature a bit better.

Mine have never seemlessly switched devices 'magically' the way Apple expects you to. Here's today's example:

Was listening to a playlist on the iPhone and my AirPods Pro. The playlist ended so I figured why not use my Apple Watch to choose another playlist? Well, my Apple Watch got hung up on 'choose audio output device' and the circle kept spinning and spinning on "Nick's AirPods Pro" and kept failing. I had to pull my iPhone out, manually swap the playlist on the phone, and do that.

A few days ago, I tried to use my Gen 2's with my iPad. The last device they paired to was my iPhone. Figured they're supposed to just switch. Tapped some music on YouTube Music. Out came the sound out of my iPad's speakers instead of my AirPods. Went to settings, "Nick's AirPods" were "not connected" (even though my AirPods did make the distinctive 'bling!' noise when I put them into my ears!)

Seems they're like every other BT headset, they will work fine with the last device they were used with, but you have to manually switch them to use another device with them, or buy separate AirPods to use with each device.

Mine are driving me nuts too. Despite having the 'last connected' thing turned on on my iPad, mine will often choose to connect to the Mac on the other side of the room. The one that's in standby mode. The one that I've never chosen to connect them too. The one that's had a wired pair of EarPods permanently plugged to it since day one.

On the other hand, my AirPod Pros will only work with my iPhone, but sometimes I pop them in, hear the connect sound and yet the call sound is still coming out of the phone. This happens enough that I've just given up with them and will use them just for noise cancellation when listening to music while travelling.

Walmart sells some "Groove On" brand true wireless buds that resemble AirPods Gen 2's.

They don't have the same audio quality or battery life of real AirPods, but work well. They even have the same sound effects as Apple branded pods. They won't auto-switch and work like any other BT headset but they are close. I think they're $30.
