thin vertical lines on my screen? Graphics card issue?

A long time ago a very very thin (about a pixel wide) neon blue vertical line showed up on my screen. Nothing made it go away and I noticed it doesn't show up in screen shots, so I don't think it's being displayed by the computer I think it's something to do with the screen. I was fine ignoring it and now a second has shown up, sometimes its blue and sometimes it's pink. Someone told me something similar happened to them when they were having graphics card issues. I have a 3 and a half year old iMac still on 10.4.11

another note sometimes when I put my computer on sleep and then click on it the screen is all back, i can hear it running but the screen wont show no matter how long I wait and I have t restart it

Your computer screen appears to be dying, it should be replacable, take it into an apple store and see what they say.
