This is a thread of ideas for websites that I currently don't have the time, energy or talent to make myself, but I'd like to see. I have no wish for compensation. I just hope to inspire somebody who wants to make a cool website.

1.) Best In Town - I'd rather know which restaurants serve the best version of a certain dish. Who makes the best pizza, the best pancakes, the best cupcakes? This info is especially useful if you're traveling.

2.) A website that helps to find cars to rent from other people. Recently there was a law passed in California that made it easier to rent your car to other people. I hope this catches on across the country. I'd love to be able to rent somebody's Porsche or Ferrari. Seems like it'd be a win, win, win. They get money for a car they don't drive that often, I didn't buy a sports car, and there is less waste in the world. It makes even more sense with SUVs or for students. If zipcar doesn't work on becoming a middle man for this, somebody should. It would be awesome if you could use your phone to find and unlock a car that is close and available, use it, return it, and have the charge automatically taken out without having to meet the owner.

Interesting ideas. I think the first one might exist already, but not to the specificity that you're talking (down to individual dishes).

I use this and many other sites in Toronto for restaurant reviews.

For car rental, try craigslist? Why not just find a car rental company?

for 1) Yelp lets you find restaurants and tips for those restautants. This would be based around the dish.

For 2) Like ebay did for tiny retailers, it could be a more efficient use of resources to not have buildings and employees, but smaller home based car rental businesses.

Cuisine is more important than dish itself. RestoMontreal.ca is a site for Montreal based restaurants and it lets you search by cuisine. Let's face it, a single dish does not a restaurant make and people strictly looking for a single dish is a very small niche of restaurant goers. Makes more sense to have more than 1 search and sorting criteria and basically, restaurant sites are a dime a dozen.

And then you could use free ad services like Craigslist or Kijiji to advertise. Really, didn't your other thread on the subject show you already that if you do find anyone to wants to rent out their cars to perfect strangers, that niche will be small and probably limited to garbage cars ?

I have toyed with starting a website called Free Toilets, that pinpointed the location of toilets around cities you can use without paying a toll. not just standard public toilets either, I still use certain ones in my old uni, 6 years after I left.

Cuisine is more important TO YOU. I want the best dish, since that's what I eat. I will travel across town for it. I know I'm not the only one. The reason restaurant sites are a dime a dozen is because they all mostly do the same thing. "Here is a restaurant, here is a rating and some tips, the tacos are pretty good."

Yes, but this is the part that makes it useful. Being able to rent cars alone is not as useful is being able to link buyers with sellers. See Ebay's billions in sales with no inventory. There is an upside for the seller and the buyer, but even more for the person who makes money off hooking them up and encouraging more transactions.

Everything is about me me me. "I want this..." "I currently don't have the time, energy or talent to make myself, but I'd like to see...". "while I wouldn't rent out my own car, I would rent one.". You want something but let the other sucker fall for it.

The world runs on bringing together talent, money, labor, and ideas. Money is the hardest to acquire, talent and ideas are the most valuable, and labor is often only an expense. Needless to say, I'm giving away ideas that have no value to me in hopes that they can be useful to someone. I really don't understand the people who go on the internet to whine. I have other talents and this is fairly low lying fruit. Needless to say, I'm pretty sure somebody will do this as somebody ends up doing almost any business venture that makes any sense eventually. The question is who gets there first and then who makes a sustainable business out of it.
"Me me me"? I'm giving away an idea. I could sit at home and be afraid of sharing my thoughts. Or be even more afraid of someone else's success, but I hope for a better world faster and rather than wait until those with the talent or money come up with the idea, I hope to be their inspiration and inspire others to inspire others.
