Trouble shooting tips wanted.
I use computers, not do electronics troubleshooting worth a dang.
Think i cooked my cMP4.1’s pci slots.
Was fiddling with my display setup and absent mindedly rotated lcd vertically and gave the display cable hard tug. Mac shutdown instantly. Then powered back up. But no video signal to lcd. When i looked at back of mac the video card looked tilted and when I opened case the video card was tilted in slot. Very weird - didn’t think was possible when locking plate screwed on. Reseated card. Reassembled case and turned on - Mac powers up, no odd beeps or anything, power light glows steady white, but no video signal to display. It says no signal and goes to sleep. Swapped in the radeon the tower came with ouat and it sending no video signal to display either. Yes, tried different video cables, too.
Further info - all the cables plugged into my usb 3.0 card are kaput.
I moved the drives that had been plugged into that usb 3.0 card to my cMP 5.1 and the drives are fine but had to use new cables to get them to work.
Well, do i just write this tower off?
Thx for input people might have. Fairly sure this tower is kaput, but wanna ask more experienced folks.

Try your GPU (the stock radeon one) in slot 2 or 3
I will try that.
And
I didn’t know could put video cards in the other slots!

Worst case scenario, I suppose you try to find a new 4,1 mainboard, they look to be around US$100.
How hard is it to swap out a cMP mother board?
Better yet I’ll go see if any videos of the process on the you tubes - am a very visual learner.
ty for the suggestion.

And dang if I can come up with search strings to get youtube or google searches to give me a teardown guide, video, or blog post that’s remotely helpful.
Sigh.

What you want is the Apple service manual - it details the full step by step breakdown of the machine, as well as troubleshooting etc.

If you can't find it, PM me and I'll send you a copy.

Did you try a different monitor, or made sure the one you’re using works?

May want to reset smc and pram before replacing anything.
I didn’t think to reset smc or pram but will do so.

Or maybe try to connect a different computer (e.g. a laptop, if you have one available) to the monitor, just to eliminate the possibility of the monitor being the one that broke.

if it is dead and your not big DIY mobo swap im tempted to suggest just getting the cheapest 4.1 you can get (base CPU etc) and pull your CPU tray/ram/gpu/drives and just swap it in to the "new" used 4.1.
depends how much they cost where you live i gess and what you want to spend

Here is a website to find the Apple Technician guide for the MacPro. I know the link says laptops but it's the correct one.

http://tim.id.au/laptops/apple/macpro/
Thank you for the links! Going to be very helpful.

Update: Think w/ lil luck can finally try these tips Friday afternoon. We had big remodeling project that’s gone sideways on us. Dang cabinet maker shipped 8 cabinets with right box/invoice on box, but key one had a very wrong cabinet inside. Ugh.
And SneakyTLoD — I do have an M8. Use it mainly for intentional infrared photography. Was at beach with it just other day.

If I am lucky a pram reset or smc reset I might be able to revive this 4.1. If doesn’t though I think with the manuals someone linked me into I would be confident enough to do mobo swap.

Hooooray! PRAM Reset did the trick! :D
Everything is "cooking" along smoothly. No problems with any hardware that I can find any signs of so far. Heck - It seems to even be more responsive at this point so I suspect my cMP4.1 was in need of a SMC and PRAM Reset all along.
Thanks All for their Assistance!!!
