Think I may have bad memory...

I just got a kingmax stick of memory from newegg today, but when i brought my pb back to work with the new 1gb stick in my apps have been crashing. CS2 crashed 3 times and mail crashed 1 time. This seems a bit shady to me.

I know there is a memtest on the tiger DVD, right? If I put it in, will it boot off the DVD and give me an option to load it there? I need to figure out if thing is bad so I can RMA it.

First off, reseat it. If you then continue to have problems send it back. Personally I wouldn't even bother to run any diags, sounds like it's pretty obvious there is a problem, you don't need an application to tell you that.

i just read through my crash log and it states a memory exception error to be the cause.

Looks like I lose.

System Profiler is a good way of seeing if your RAM is actually active. Open it, and go to where the Memory section is. If it's not registering all of your memory you'll know because instead of it giving you 1GB it will be like 512MB.

However, any time you do a RAM upgrade, you should do the basic PRAM/Permissions routine. I'm betting you just need to do all of that.
I've purchased many things from newegg.com and never had a problem.

i have no problems with newegg. i just don't like this stick. or the last one i bought from them. this makes 2 duds in a row.

yes, the memory is recognized by the system.

sorry for the flurry of posts, but i'm not sure what to make of this. I ran hardware test and did the extended test. Everything is fine according to Apple...

Is there another way I can do a memory test?

Pull the new memory stick

Pull out the new memory stick and re-boot. If you are having the same problems then it is not the stick. If no problems without stick then the stick is either not seated properlly or the memory stick is defective. A little tip, when troubleshooting always start with the newest thing installed be it hardware or software. Then you can better understand what caused the problem.
