Alright so here's my situation. My plan was to get a 23" Cinema Display and a MacBook Pro at the end of the year, when they have Merom.

I am however getting into some audio stuff (Digital Performer), and my 15" Apple Studio Display (Flat Panel) is a bit small for working with DP.

My Dual 1.25Ghz G4 tower has a DVI port on the video card, (Radeon 9000 Pro/64mb), so that would drive a 23" moniter right? It wouldn't drive a 30" though.... am I right on that?

So, i'm thinking of buying the moniter now, and then using it with the MBP when I get the MBP later. I am worried though, that they'll be a price slash, or a upgrade even, on the moniters. Is it possible that by the fall (perhaps with the release of the Mac Pro?) they'll be new moniters?

Thanks.

i agree -- no price slash. might find a deal on refurb, especially in store. there have been several threads on great in-store prices on refurb panels.

i'm not a big fan of the onboard iSight -- i still prefer my original iSight, as i can put it where i want.

i would love to replace my 22" ACD with the newer AL 23", but so far i can find no reason other than 'want'. best monitor i have ever owned. still makes friends gasp/drool when they see it in action.

What is the native resolution of 22 inch ACD?

To the OP: get 23 incher now, as I see you NEED it. Dont bother waiting - it can take more time than you planned. I bet you WILL notice an increase in pixels after you get 1920x1200 monitor compared to your current 1024x768 :D

Are you sure the Radeon 9000 has DVI? I thought it only had ADC and VGA.

ADC and DVI and came with the DVI to VGA thingy in the box. using one right now! (9000>DVI>VGA>sucky old 17" LCD that someone gave me because it broke).

1600x1024 isnt 16:10, is this right?

it's listed as 16:10, but that's not really correct. close enough for me. fun to watch widescreen movies on.

If you need the 23" ACD now, then I say to just go and purchase the current version. If and when Apple releases new ACDs, I doubt that we will see a reduction in price- or a small one if there is.

applecare

not sure if it matters to you
BUT- if you buy the monitor W/ the MBP (or any machine for that matter)
you get applecare for free

if you buy them seperate (like i did) -- then NO apple care is available for you

(or @ least this is how it was a year ago)

else- yea- i'd expect new monitors soon
it has been a while since the last update
more importantly- new things have 'come out'
such as the isight built in idea...etc
so... expect something new something/sometime soon

Yeah.. the built in iSight would make me wait. I better just wait in that case..

Thanks.

I'm hoping for newer ACD's with the new PowerMacs in August. Probably with much better specs then they have now, although Apple secretly updated the specs a bit 2 months ago. The specs of the current ACD's are 3 years old and the response time is heavily outdated (14ms, this was 16ms before the quiet update).
