Hey all as my name would say i am a newbee to this forum, but i am also a newbee to the Mac world. I have always used a PC but have found that there are so many problems with PC's that i dont want to purchase a new one. The reason i am posting is because i am looking for a new computer, and am interested in purchasing an iMac, but until i go back to school i would primarily use this computer to download music and movies. The movies i would like to burn onto DVD, and obviously i would like to burn the music onto CD's as well. I am wondering would i be best suited to buy a Mac computer even though i am only interested in downloading Movies and Music and putting them onto CD's and DVD's. Any feedback would be greatly apprecaited.

There are certainly cheaper ways to just download CD's and make DVD's but since you want an iMac, and will have a greater need for one in the future, I do not see why you should not by one. (I don't see any reason for not buying anything you want and can afford.). The iMac is a good computer.

Does that answer your question, or were you asking about when to buy?

no i would not be selling the music or dvds, just keeping them for personal use. i am tired of giving these actors/musicians my hard earned money so they can support their drug habbits. in later days i would be using this computer for more than just downloading. and no i did mean newbee. thank you to all for replying, that is what i wanted to hear. if i buy now i get a free nano for being a student, so that is another bonus for me.

The Mac is so much more inherently secure - especially if you're downloading material of questionable source. A safer (better) internet experience is one of the main reasons to buy a Mac.

i am tired of giving these actors/musicians my hard earned money so they can support their drug habbits.

If you really don't want to support the drug habits of actors/musicians, shouldn't you just boycott their 'products'? Or I suppose the alternative would be to buy a lot of Christian rock instead (I'm blindly assuming that they wouldn't use drugs ;) )

The fact is, that people should be compensated for their work if you consume it, no matter what it supports. If you don't like what they do with the money, then don't buy or steal their music. Maybe the drugs they are on contributed to the creation of the music you like? Like the music, pay for it.

Come to think of it, isn't Steve looking a little bit like a drug addict lately? :p
