I feel that the MBA v 2,1 (currently called rev B/C on these forums) is a BARGAIN. For $1349 for a rev B MBA with 1.86 GHz CPU and 128 GB SSD, is an incredible value over original MBA pricing at $1799 to $3099. And even $1799 new, or $1549 refurbished MBA, with 2.13 GHz and 128 GB SSD is an incredible deal over what was just $2499 before June 2nd this year. The MBA is cheaper than was ever intended to be and therefore the market accessibility has expanded greater than I believe Apple wanted it to... I feel Apple wanted to keep the prices higher but couldn't given the current worldwide economic recession.
I would encourage most people to only consider a v 2,1. And if using it as a primary computer, one should definitely upgrade the drive to SSD. I upgraded my stock SSD to a Runcore and see huge performance gains.
Also, if you just want something to check your email, consider an iPod Touch or even an iPhone. The iPod touch can be used wherever you have wifi and the iPhone has service nearly everywhere with 3G. I use an iPhone for email and light browsing away from home. If I need a real computer, I have an MBA for that. I use the MBA as my sole Mac and connect it to a 24" LED ACD at my desk.
The MBA really can be the perfect Mac "system" if paired with all of the products available. I use an AirPort Extreme Base Station, attached drive and printer. That way I can access my home files over the Internet. With the 24" LED ACD, I also get power for the MBA, and a USB hub for all peripherals needed. Add in MobileMe and it is the perfect Mac system. The MBA really can be used as a primary Mac for business or casual users.
PROBLEMS: 1, The lines are there on most MBAs. However, it can be substantially reduced with GAMMA setting 2,2 which is the default used by Snow Leopard. Also, those lines are very rarely seen usually easiest to find on a white or light grayish colored background on web. Really not a problem for most as most cannot find the lines. 2, The Nvidia 9400m is throttled along with CPU. However, my MBA runs most HD video fine even on 24" LED ACD without any problems.
