Well I have a 2.26GHZ MBP Unibody. It is great but not covering it for final cut (screen size), movie watching, storage space, games, etc. So I was thinking about buying a separate gaming laptop, monitor, external mouse, speakers, multiple HDD'S etc. Then I realized why not just go iMac, with all this junk on my desk together it is probably more complicated then getting a desktop. iMac is the perfect transition however here are my qualms:
1) high end gpu only on massive 27" model kills all hope of easily traveling (twice a month) with the 22" via iLugger. The screen res also kills it for me, its a novelty, too high for games. Plus the 4850 will obviously be replaced next year. I would be fine with it if the res was 1080p but at the res with that card high end gaming would be horrible.
2) kind of expensive when I could get the i5 model for only a few hundred more.
3) 4670 is not that powerful but rather OK.
So what I am thinking is this. Buy the 21.5 high end model. Play all my older games (that take less power) then when apple announces a slightly better model that suites my needs upgrading to it. As a back up if apple does not do this (or I get too bored without newer games) I can build a small form factor gaming desktop and use the imac display. Basically I am posting just to ask what makes for sense. Getting the high end 21.5 model temporally, or sticking with my MBP and buying a separate gaming laptop with a 260m, which would last quite a bit longer than the 21.5 imac (the card is much better than the 4670 and about equal to a the 27" 4850.
PS sorry for another thread about imac and gaming.
