Check the specs by going to About this mac under the Apple icon. Check for damage, like dents, scratches, make sure it boots, make open disk utility and verify disk and make sure he/she gives you the restore disks and the included adapters like miniDVI, ethernet, etc. Oh and make sure the screen works as well as the keyboard.

The work's cut out for you since there are only 3 ports.

Check for physical appearance (dents, scratches, etc.) and dead pixels.

Have them do a clean install of leopard for you.

Agree. Once the updates are issued - and if they include the MBA - I'd recommend taking a look at the MBA refurb. They will come with Apple's warranty, and a rigorous testing, as well as a generous discount.
Cheers

Hey,

I was wondering if you know what the difference between refurb and brand new will be? would the refurbs be error free?

They may have a few scratches on them, since they're pretty much used. But they are checked by Apple. Plus, you get a warranty if it breaks.

So the better option is to always go with refurb than used.

How is this different from a used, if I buy a used MBA thats just a few months old wouldnt the warranty still be valid and transfered to me?

Used-you get the remainder of the warranty. If the original owner bought it 6 months ago, you only get 6 months warranty.

Refurbished-you can 1 year warranty

If the used one has the issue with excessive thermal paste noted by some, it could have the associated heat/performace problems. A refurb would most likely have had that problem remedied at the factory.
