im thinking about getting an unlocked iphone for tmobile, and i don't have a data plan and i was wondering if i needed a data plan on it, or if it could just work on wifi.

Perhaps you should evaluate getting a touch instead. What's the point of having an iPhone if you are limited to only wifi usage?
