Hi,

Do you think the Ipad could replace my Iphone 3GS? I can just use a cheaper phone, cut the data plan, I wanna use the Ipad and some of it's programs for learning, like the flash card app, etc.

Now that I have my iPad my iPhone is neglected. I don't make many calls, just keep up with kids via texts. I can see myself giving my iPhone to my daughter and just getting a basic phone for emergencies. I do wish I could text with my iPad.

That's exactly what I did, sold my 3GS and bought an iPad and I've also just bought a 2G iPhone (I prefer this iPhone over the newer ones), so now I've got an iPad for use around the home and for watching movies, playing games etc I've got my iPhone for basic apps and phone calls/texting, I don't need the speed of the 3GS as I won't be using many apps on it

I really love my iPad. However, my iPhone will always be my first love. They both have equal value to me and I do not ever see eliminating one for the other.

Sold off my 3GS the day i got my iPad ( while it still had a decent value ) and have no regrets.

I did exactly as you want to do, I just got a cheap/decent flip phone, no data plan and i have a 3G iPad and everything is awesome!

FOR ME a iPhone and iPad would be overkill....Plus paying for 2 data plans? thats just stupid all together...Yeah i could have went for the WiFi only iPad but i much prefer this setup...

well i also have a macbook pro unibody 15" top of the line, the data plan is killing me on the iphone 3GS.

Guess it didn't really occur to me but as long as you have a cheap phone with the ability to text - it's not a terrible idea. A few points:

- I get lots and lots of pictures using my iPhone 3GS that i would not have otherwise gotten with a cheaper (non-camera) phone - although most all phones prob have a camera now.

- i have some apps that i still use on the phone that i don't on the iPad such as Facebook, and others that i just don't like on the iPad because of the 2x resolution thing. You can of course just go to facebook website, but as far as i can tell you cannot upload pics to FB from your iPad...
