What would be a good price in your opinion? I feel the MP is being wasted since I really don't do any heavy computing.

Hello,

Assuming you have the base model which you do, and the standard 3GB 1066 memory and standard hard drive - probably around 2000-2200 dollars. But, if you expanded the heck out of it, prob more like 2500-2800(assuming you put SSD's in there, upgraded the 5770 to the 5870, and or expanded the memory). I am in the same boat as you are.. I have a 6-core only to prolong my machine.. now I see the error in my judgement and now have resorted back to a Power Mac G5 Quad for my basic, everyday stuff..

except that I am not selling my system.. my system originally was a 2009 mac pro.. spent 300 in September 2010 for the 2010 backplane and processor board.. Then in December of 2010 bought the 6-core W3680 for 700 dollars - it was an ENGINEERING SAMPLE, but works just as the retail boxed.

So, I do understand your point of not being able to use it for what it was intended.

But anyway, good luck.. ANother site you can go to is "sell my mac.com"

Hard to say without knowing what's in it or what comes with it. However, just look at completed listings on Ebay for similar spec Mac Pros and you'll get an idea of their value.

Sorry for not mentioning it is the base Mac Pro 2.8GHz, 3GB Ram, 1TB HDD and 1GB Radeon 5770 Card. On E-Bay now.

+1 for completed auction search on eBay. Also, the 2.8 is 2,100 via the Apple refurbished store, so just me, I wouldn't offer more than 1,800-1,900.

I just sold my '10 SP model (completely stock, basic configuration) for $1800 on Craigslist. Local, cash sale, so I was happy. Honestly, I'm not sure I would have done much better on eBay...

I am in the same boat! I wonder how much I would get for my Mac Pro as below with 30'' Cinema Display, all warranted till Oct.2012

2008 Mac Pro | 2 x 2.8 GHz-Quad-Core Intel Xeon-8Core
16Gb RAM
2xWDC WD5000AAKS-41YGA1-500.11 GB HD (500,107,862,016 bytes)
1x80GB SSD
NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT
2xPIONEER DVD-RW DVR-112D (Apple Shipping Drive)
30'' Apple Cinema HD: Resolution: 2560 x 1600

By the way my Cinema Display was replaced brand new just about 4 months a go.

I don't know about how much the monitor would add; but for the tower alone, I would guess somewhere around $2300 maybe?

Prices are dropping like anything!! I bought about 13 months a go for just about £4000.00. I will be loosing too much if I sell, so it makes me think what to do! I think the best thing is to keep it then loosing so much money by selling it.
Regardless, thank you for your help.
