Right now I have the google g1 phone. I'm thinking about selling it and switching to the iphone. After having the ipod touch I got for free when I bought my new imac [college discount] I discovered the touch screen is much more responsive than the google g1 touch screen. I placed an ad to sell it on craigslist and already have several people who will buy it. So I called my local apple store to make sure the 3G S 16gb iphone price was 199$. To my surprise he said it was 499$ without at&t activation. I'm not switching from t-mobile, my plan was to learn how to unlock the phone. My question is where can I buy the phone at that price or near it without the contract? Or is it not possible? It would only cost me about 50$ more once I sold my google phone, but if it's 499$ then I'm not going to switch. Also is it hard to unlock the phone for t-mobile? I did some research doesn't seem like rocket science. And I'm pretty sure the places that say they will unlock your iphone for you is a rip off right? Because you can do it yourself? I would appreciate your help. Thanks, JFD. :apple: In the meantime while I wait for a response I'll be searching google to try and answer my questions.

You will only be able to used EDGE data on TMobile, and it comes with OS3.1 you can't unlock it. And no, there is no way to guarantee that it comes with OS3.0.1.

Yeah, if you have 3G service in your area, the myTouch/iPod Touch combo is better, IMO. I'm actually going to be switching from my iPhone 3G to a myTouch/iPT combo, since there's 3G where I live now. The iPhone is awesome... the fact that you can't use 3G on it sucks. Between that and the battery life issue I've been having (Only been on 30 mins, with the screen off, and it's at 85%) it's just not worth the hassle anymore.

wow I thought the battery was bad on google g1 because I had to charge it every night. I guess it's not that bad. I'm probably just going to stick with my current setup. The reason I like the google g1 is because it has a physical keyboard. I have hyperhydrosis, excessive sweating hands. Which makes touch screens not practical for typing. Plus the 3G network is good. Ill probably not sell it. Will probably be to much of a hassle to switch and ill probably regret it.

The moto android phone is coming soon to tmo, that might trump the g1.

does that have a physical keyboard?? I'm not crazy about any phones without physical keyboards because typing on them is twice as fast as touch screens typing plus my hands sweat.

that phone looks great, the keyboard is half the size of the g1 keyboard and looks just as good. The camera is 5 mega pixels. wow! Looks like this phone could save motorola. In the USA they are calling it the CLIQ and Europe the DEXT. I tried to find the USA release date but can't find it any where. Called motorola and they don't even answer just give a pre recorded message about it. When is the USA release date for the phone???
