Hi! I was thinking about buying a 32 GB upgrade kit for my iMac i3 2019 (think this is the iMac19,2). I was also thinking about upgrading the CPU at the same time. I have done this with an iMac before so I don't think I would encounter any problems doing a brain swap. The CTO version has an I7-8700, so I will be popping one of those in. It probably makes no difference at all but according to the intel spec page the i3-8100 in the base Imac supports only 2400 MHz DDR4 ram but the CTO I7 supports 2666 MHz DDR4 ram. I just wonder if this is a motherboard or CPU limitation? Do you guys have any ideas? I'm guessing Apple arent using different motherboards so it's a CPU limitation. But I was just curious if you guys have any ideas. I know it's not super critical since the ram will clock itself down anyway. I was just asking out of curiousity really.

Anyway I'm sorry for the rambling post . I was just wondering if anyone knew.

You can’t have had that machine long?
Did you select the wrong model.

One thing to consider is your warranty will be worth nothing, if you do this.
Did you pay for the extra applecare?

Supported RAM speed should be related both cpu and chipset (mobo in a way). Since both cpus works on the same chipset, I really don’t think that you’ll face a RAM speed problem.

Actually I don't mind about the warranty, but I fully understand people who who have such concerns. I successfully upgraded the CPU in another iMac that I owned so I'm ok with doing the procedure myself. Thanks guys.

Thanks! I think you are on the money!
