hello my name is Jonathan I have a 2019 27inch iMac with 16 ram and 2tb ssd and a 16 inch laptop with the same specs as my iMac and iPhone 11 Pro also 2019 Im thinking of maybe changing them this year but I don't no know how long the current machines have left of software updates as in the new iso and Mac OS versions

I am thinking of moving down from the pro laptops to the air and to a smaller 24 inch iMac but I'm used to the 27 inch screen

I don't mid moving to a 13inch screen as my laptop is just weekend usage and when I'm away at my holiday home

any help would be great :)

What are you wanting to do on the iMac primarily? For anything though, I'd recommend at least 16 GB of RAM. The other thing you could do would be to get an M2 or M2 Pro Mac mini (since that has an updated chip) and get a large external monitor, rather than an iMac. Just a thought.

Would a Mac mini work for you? It has a more up-to-date chip (M2/M2 Pro), and supports more RAM than the M1 iMac does. Also, you could provide yourself with a decent external monitor and work like that. Or are you strictly looking for an iMac?

I mean I use only apples Owen software on my Macs and vm wear for making images of windows and Mac OS for family and cousins business computers etc I like how all my apple computes sync together :)

Im manly looking a iMac as I like the all in one with no mess of cables
Ah, I see. Well then, if you're looking for an iMac, I'd go for at least the mid-tier model (with two fans), 16 GB of RAM and the 8-core GPU.

is there anything you want to do with your current computers and phone that you can’t do now?

If not is say replacing any of those is a waste of money

Your computing needs seem very basic (in a good way!) and it seems like the upgrades will marginally help with what you’re doing, the main improvements will be longevity and aesthetic-wise.

I went from a 2012 27” iMac to the 24” iMac (16/8) and the smaller screen has not been too noticeable for me, although I mainly use my iMac for research and writing, occasionally a game or two, and music/logic. All of Apple’s apps work fantastically and will continue to do so for many years. There is a wallpaper you can find online for the 27” iMac that will give you a feel of the 24” iMac, it’s what I used while waiting for the 24” to be release (Here’s the wallpaper. Be sure to move your icons inside the 24” frame and adjust your dock)

In terms of a MacBook, the M1 or M2 Air will definitely be able to do what you’d like and will also last a long time. Since it’s for weekend use, the small size and lightness will be a nice “upgrade” and everything will be lightning fast. Transporting it to your vacation home will also be awesome. I went from a 13” Pro to the 16” M1 Pro and I really miss the smaller size during transport and regular day to day use.

So overall, your current devices seem to do the trick, but if you’re able to upgrade financially I would go for it. Get the 24” iMac, and as others have said, make sure to get 16gb ram and 8-core for longevity. Either M1 or M2 Air will be great and that comes down to which form factor you like best. Check out Apple’s refurb store, too.

Lastly, I got the M1 iMac on release day and it’s been great, but it’s been a while since it’s been updated so if you’re not needing one right away, you could always hold off to see what’s to come. I know “waiting for the next gen” can be dumb since there will always be newer models coming out, but if a few months of waiting can get you a machine that’s a couple of years newer, with updated internals, I would do that.

I been to the Apple Store today in Belfast and I found the new 16 inch a bit to big now but I found the 14 inch a nice size not to big or small as for the iMac I hold out and see if they change there minds and make a bigger one I found the air a nice laptop as well but I still not Sur wether to stir with a pro or air laptop

How is battery on iPhone 11 Pro? Do you use 5G? What are your 4G/LTE speed now? Few of my friends upgraded from 11-14 PM, they absolutely love 5 G speeds.

MBP 14 inch is a great laptop, I have 16 inch MBP and love it.
