I am thinking of going to the apple site to buy 2 3G ipads and then selling them on Craigslist or ebay. Do you guys think that with the strong demand I can make a few $$$ at it?

You will make lots of money if you sell them quickly, especially by selling
on eBay to International customers.

Personally speaking though, I am against doing this and is the same reason why ticket touts (scalpers) get so rich, meanwhile genuine fans miss out. That's just my opinion though, it's a free market and if you're old enough to drop over a grand on two iPads, you're old enough to make your own decisions ;)

The capitalist in me thinks it's just fine and do whatever you like.

The other buyer who is looking to buy 2 because I need 2, thinks it's an ass-hat move.

Even the capitalist in me thinks that just because something is fine from an economic standpoint, your actions show a lack of character.

Lemmie guess. Haven't been to business school? If you can buy them now, why wouldn't someone else? Keep in mind, you're also going to get hit with the sales tax etc... I guess worst case, you return them and take a 15% hit on the restocking fee, but that's still about $100 each for the cheapest 3g models...

Long story short, that only works if 1) there is far more demand than supply, and 2) the time to get the product is long for those who didn't preorder. I don't think this fits either bill.

For them to use who's microSims in though? Even so, unless you've got infinitely deep pockets, data service will be expensive until apple works out deals to allow the devices on the carrier's networks.

My thought it there is a lot of pent up demand on the IPAD 3g now.

Curious to know if other people agree in the demand.

Also do you think the most popular model will be the 16 or 32?

Is not a cool thing to do, but if people are dumb enough to spend an extra $300-$500 because they can't wait to get one...then you should take advantage of there stupidity, they deserve it.

Soon everyone will be able to get one, just wait people.

Will the 3Gs for the US work on the European cell networks? You may be better off just getting 7 or 8 WiFi only 64GB units and selling them on eBay. For some unknown reason, the people in Europe and Asia are dying to get their hands on one.

This is why the wifi Ipads are sold out in every Best Buy and Apple store in my area, due to the nobs thinking they are going to make a windfall profit by scooping these things up and selling.

Realistically, if you do the math, the most you are making after shipping and tax, is about $50 to $75 an iPad, if that. I guess if you had 10 of them sold, you'd have yourself a free ipad, but its a lot to fool with.

Those that are selling the base wifi model for $800 on ebay and think that they are actually going to sell deserve what they get.

I went to the Apple store to put my name on their waiting list for the wifi 32 gb the other day and then that night bought one from a friend who didn't want his. When Apple sent me my email that mine was available for pickup, I posted on craigslist my reservation so someone else could use my reservation and I got a million hits. I met a guy up their and he gave me $100 for doing this!

I guess the recession IS over :|

Definitely do it. I got my mate to go to the Chicago store, he went with 2 colleagues ang got 6 32GB iPads. I'll keep one, and we'll sell 5 here in SA at about 75% markup, so I'll get mine free and still pocket some cash. Result! :D

Yeah, me too, they even had the Apple case in stock. Guess we just got lucky.

Search ebay for ended listings od iPads. You'll find that you can easily make a profile. They problem is, if you don't have a selling history, you do lose out a bit to those that do. Finally, this is a risk of bidders from countries known to have high percentages of fraud or problematic sales.

Be sure to consider the sales tax, ebay fees(probably around 30-50 or more depending on amount), and Paypal fees. All these really cut into profits. It's also a good idea to go to ebay and check the completed items to get a true idea about how much they are going for. Whatever you do don't ship to an address that isn't verified by paypal. The scammers are out in full force when hot items like this come out(as both buyers and sellers).

There is profit to be made, but don't think it's easy. After selling (6) 64GB iPad for $925 each, I averaged $68.25 profit on each. That's after sales tax, eBay fees, the 3.9%+ $.30 international PayPal fee and subsidized shipping to entice buyers. I sold my 6, and I'm done. Now I wait for my 64Gb 3G to get here so I can enjoy it.

Umm, remind me not to go to the business school you went to, if it was even a physical school and not some correspondence course.

If you can buy them now, why wouldn't someone else?

Well, someone else, who happens to live in the E.U. can't just buy one from Apple. Duh?

Long story short, that only works if 1) there is far more demand than supply

Again, in the E.U., and pretty much the rest of the world, there is far more demand than supply.

At this point, if you have good feedback on ebay as a seller and sell selectively to the right buyer with good feedback as a buyer, you will likely make your money back, including taxes and shipping, and turn a profit. $950-$1000 seems to be the current going rate for the 64GB.

Whether or not it's worth the effort to weed through non-paying bidders and scammers, then pack it up and ship it, for an apporoximate $100 profit is a different argument. If you can somehow access a couple dozen of them, it will make a lot more sense.

Well....the other option is Craigs list. I was at the apple store today and they are totally sold out. again! The guy told me there is such a demand no supply

Thinking of buying 2 3G's just to sell thoughts?

Selling iPads isn't the same as selling thoughts. No need to have to invest up front for a chance of a little profit later. Join a Think Tank. Get paid for your thoughts. :D
