Hello

I'm thinking of buying a used Mac Air. I'm wondering what the risk is to doing this? Ive heard about the various problems I could encounter with it and if I do am I then able to turn it in to apple if say it heats up too much?

although, buying used off craigslist or ebay is cheaper than Apple's refurb prices, overall i think it's much safer to go with Apple.

For me the advantage is that, you can rest easy knowing its not a scam, and that if there is any issue with the computer you can always take it to Apple to get fixed or return it.

And the Apple refurbs are sold, and warranted, as "good as new". So they have the 1yr Apple warranty, that you can extend with AppleCare. I've bought several items from refurb, my wife bought her Air from refurb, no issues.

Now that I no longer have my student discount I plan on buying my next Mac as a refurbished model.

I've bought iPods before and so has my friend. They've come in new condition and at great prices.

Definitely, go with the refurbed MBA, you'll get the same 1 year warranty as if the MBA were new, plus you'll have the option of AppleCare for an additional 2 years. At $1499 v. $1799 that's pretty tough to beat with all the extras...:p

Thinking of all the threads about annoying problems that end with "ebay it and get a new one" advice, I would never buy a used laptop from someone I don't know. Refurbished is better way to go IMO.
