My fiancé's been pretty happy with the MacBook White 1.83GHz I got her a couple of years ago but recently its been playing up a little. Nothing that a reinstall wouldn't solve really (beach balling in Safari) but the battery's not what it used to be.
Anyway, I've been looking at MacBook Airs and I'm thinking of getting her one. I keep having to say to myself that its not for me and its not for her so the 2GB RAM limit shouldn't be a problem. I don't think the CPU speed will matter much for her since all she does is Safari/Mail/Word but I do think it's worth trying to get her one with an SSD since an 80GB/120GB 4200rpm is going to be *slow* imo. Much slower than the 160GB 5400rpm drive I think she has now whereas a 64GB/128GB SSD would be a hell of a lot faster than what she has now. Any advice on this?

The main thing I'm asking for here though are some suggestions on good cases. For myself I've always gone for Tucano second skin cases but they seem a bit manly and I think I'd rather get her something more feminine and stylish. Nothing that'll break the bank though and not a hard case but something that'll still be protective enough to handle being shoved in a bottomless big handbag.

Any suggestions?

1) Download Snow Leopard Cache Cleaner.

2) Run "Repair Permissions", "Run maintenance scripts", and "Clear System Log Archives" under Maintain.

3) Run Optimize Files and Optimize File Cache under optimize.

4) Check how many items are listed under Login Items as these can suck resources. Remove as appropriate.

then reboot reseting PRAM and NVRAM as you reboot.

If you still have problems with Safari then you can use the Caches tab with Deep Cleaning to clear the appropriate caches. These can cause problems sometimes which might be what is happening with Safari.

This blog is perfect for you!

And thanks, LinMac, for the SL cache cleaner. I didn't know such a thing existed. I've been using Webroot's Window Washer for my PC for several years now and just adore the "shred with bleach" option for extra security. ;)

Wow! You're right that is perfect!! I think i'm going to get her a leather one to start with. I've found a "Thinvelope" one in the UK for under £30. I'm sure its not the 'official' one made by the US firm but I might give it a try anyway. Then I'll give her the link to that site. She's pretty handy too so she may be inspired by some of the things on there and set out to make her own custom one!
