Hey MacRumors.com Forum Members,

I'm thinking about getting an iPhone around Christmas time, would that be a good idea. Is there a new one in talks ? Or is it for later on 2010 ?

Why can't people use the search for things like this? There is always an answer in threads like this:

Get it now if you want it. If you want to wait for the new one that will come out during the summer, wait for that one then.

There will always be a new model coming out eventually. If you want it now, get it now. If not, then wait.

Why can't people stay out of clearly titled threads they find annoying? The poor guy is obviously new to the iPhone game is just asking us for advice on the current model, there's no need to ask him to search... Maybe he DOESN'T WANT TO, maybe he'd rather interact with us directly instead of skimming a bunch of old threads.

It's up to you. And more of a matter of personal decision. Anyway, use MRoogle. It's useful. ;)

Now to confuse you even more, have you read what they wrote about the good droid phones?
Motorola,HTC, and now even Dell.
Yes DELL.

now you are even more confused whether to buy what...

I would get one. The 3GS speed is a huge improvement over the last (my wife has the 3G and I find it irritatingly slow--funny I didn't think so until I got the 3GS).

You will, of course, want the new one when it comes out, but you'll always want the new one. Depends on what you've got now and how it's meeting your needs. I'm quite sure I'll find a reason the current 3GS doesn't meet my needs next summer (especially if there's multitasking in the next version), but for now I'm very happy.

Theses no new phone comming out in the next coiple of months,

(If you're in the USofA): There's talk about Verizon having iphones mid next year, so if you really dont want a AT&T contract you could wait but that's likelt 9 months aay or so.

First of all sorry for reposting something thats very common here. I'll start using the MRoogle more often.

Thanks everyone for the replies.

Might go grab an iPhone 3GS

I'm out of the country till February, so I've decided that I'll wait until June/July 2010 to get one. I know the wait will be hard, but a good rule about Apple is "buy it the day it comes out". It's not an easy rule to follow, but it hasn't failed me yet!

Exactly. I loved my 3G for over a year, until I got my 3GS 2 weeks ago. I saw plenty of comparison videos of both devices before, but it was only when I had both side-by-side, with the same install(from a backup on both) and did my own tests, that you really notice the difference.
When you press and hold an app icon and move it, you notice just how much smoother the 3GS is. It's like a game running at 25-30 frames per second, and another running at 60 fps.

I got my 3Gs last week....who cares if a new one comes out next summer, I'm enjoying my 3Gs NOW and if I decide to get the new one next summer, I can sell my 3Gs and then get the newer one at retail price without having to sign a new 2 year contract.

Goodluck on your decision! I'm happy with my decision in getting it.

walter..

What a stupid "stance", sorry but that's ridiculous. 5 months in, and it's "approaching the end of its cycle"??? Not even HALF of a year since it came out... But to you, and your magical math, that's "nearly the end."

The magical thing is that you fail to use multi-quote. That's worse than not searching.

It's never a good time to buy an iPhone because a better one is just around the corner. I'm kinda pissed that I can't get an iPhone 3GS (I had one, but I didn't like it) and now I'm stuck with a plain old matte white iPhone 3G.

The funny thing is, 2.2.1 is really nice on the iPhone 3G. Yes, the 3GS is still faster, but 3.0 slowed the iPhone 3G down quite a bit, so it makes the 3GS look even faster.

I'm still running 2.2.1 because it's the best OS for the iPhone 3G.
