I already have a pc mostly a gaming pc. I am just thinking of having the best of both worlds!

Well as you have a pc then presumably not going to be worried about potential boot camp or x86-64 virtualisation issues on Apple silicon.

personally would wait till the Apple silicon Mac’s start to appear.

you have no ”legacy” software to worry about for developers not moving with Apple either. So wouldn’ bother with an intel based Mac now and save the transition to Apple silicon later.

in terms of laptop or desktop then really depends upon what you want to use it for.

my first Mac was a laptop, as could use out and about. However I find an iPad does enough personally when am out and about so no longer bother with laptops. Just a Mac mini for media server and a hack for video editing. However for others they do use that fully spaced out mbpro 16” so really need to understand what for looking for from your Mac.

This.

And as you already have a desktop PC, surely with monitor, keyboard etc., the best of both worlds would include to buy a laptop instead of another desktop device. A Macbook of any kind could, if needed, be connected to the existing peripherals.

Of course:

If you plan to throw heavy workloads on your Mac, you should consider a desktop or a MBP 16". But if it is more about looking into the macOS world, one of the first light Apple Silicon Macbooks should be fine.

What do you want to use the Mac for primarily ? Also I agree with @nothingtoseehere that you should consider getting a format different to your gaming PC. So assuming you have a desktop PC then a laptop would make more sense.

I should point out that Mac's make poor gaming machines as most games are optimised for windows. So I would not buy a Mac if you are planning to run games on it.

You should totally wait. Apple silicon is the future. Intel is the past. You'll be happy you did. Best of luck and when you do get a Mac and welcome to the club and have a blast!

This question is impossible to answer because of the way it was posed: no usage case and no budget.

This is like asking "Which Toyota/Honda/Ford should I buy?"

Sienna? Tundra? Camry? Yaris? Prius? RAV4?

Focus? F-150?

Young single guy? Have three kids? Towing a boat? Mid-life crisis? Fat wallet with $100 bills falling out unnoticed? Expecting for 10+ years of ownership? Second car? Third car? Weekend fun car? Work vehicle?

You'll get far more relevant and useful suggestions if you actually describe what you are trying to accomplish in the short-, medium-, and long-term as well as what sort of budget window you want to land in.

(sigh)
