What is the best/most popular website that will explain how to jailbreak my iphone 3G?

Also, what is the most popular/best website for items & themes I can download for my jailbroken phone.

If I do not like it, all i need to do is hook my iPhone up to my laptop and click restore on i tunes? After I do that how would I get everything back that I have on it now after I back it up? Would I just sync it with my iPhone?

Also, what are the negative & positive things of jailbreaking an iPhone now?

is there an official site that will tell me what the most up to date version of jailbreak is out?

also, how do you know what actual version of the iPhone software you are using?

i.e., if I have the Jailbreak version of 2.0, how would I know what iPhone version I am using?

and one more :)

when I want to update a jailbroken iphone to the newest firmware, do I have to restore the iPhone, or how does that work?

thanks.

The Pwnage tool Just run the app and follow the instructions u cant go wrong!

by items i assume u mean apps the jailbreak will install an app called cydia where you can download "items" and themes. or you can torrent apps or use macthemes2.net for themes

Yep at anypoint connect it up and restore using an original .ipsw an it will be back to normal and it will be "virginized"

Custom themes Expensive app store apps for free (I have £100's worth and aint paid a penny); cooler apps that apple wont allow (GBA Emulator etc) ; use you phone as a 3G modem for your macbook!

it says in itunes or Settings > General > About > Version on your phone

errrm i dont understand u select the version u want in the pwnage tool 2.0 2.0.1 or 2.0.2, and the tool then builds your custom jailbroken firmware for you which u out on your phone

Yep you have to restore each time with the new cusrom built pwnage firmware that is built around the new firmware but there will be a new version on the pwnage tool for each firmware update DONT upgrade till there is a compatible pwnage tool

Hope this helps a bit

the sleepers.net website is one of the best for advice and guides etc.

FWIW I originally jailbroke my 1.1.4 phone and upgraded to a "clean" 2.0.2 with no problem at all and no loss of data on the phone.

I've since jailbroke it again using the pwn tool v2.0.3.1 and the only scare was during the restore process I got an unknown error in itunes... reconnecting the usb fixed it and setting up as a new phone then worked fine. Again no loss of contact or email data.

hey thanks a lot for the advice. i'm loving my iphone now that i jailbroke it. i am still learning all the new things, like where to find games and stuff, but it is fun now.

i installed the NES emulator which is addicting.
