Hi guys,

Long time lurking, don't post often. Looking for some thoughts. I currently have the iPhone 6S - was thinking of getting the iPhone X.

Few questions
1 - is the 1,000 investment worth it?
2 - when does the new iPhone come out? Should I wait? Get the X?

Thank you!

1. Worth is a very subjective thing and nobody can answer that for you.

2. Electronics deprecate in value from the minute they get off the shelf. So it’s never a “investment”. You’re spending that money. Burning that money.

3. The new iPhone will be announced in second week of September and be available after 2 weeks from the date it gets announced. Generally that’s how Apple releases happen.

I had mine since launch and no regrets at all. Very fast device with a awesome camera I would say go for it unless you can wait for the latest model to be released this year.

If on T-Mobile I would wait till the 2018 model so you can get LTE Band 71 (600Mhz) for better rural coverage and indoor coverage.

I'd wait. Put aside $$ now until October (or even later) Likely to be ~$899 this year for X model.

The new iPhone X that will be announced is believed to be cheaper than the current X so if you can wait you may be able get it for as little as $899 or so rather than $999 for the version that is about to be outdated.
[doublepost=1531720333][/doublepost]You may be able to find a cheap 2017 X once the new X is released but I would not expect the 2017 X to be sold by Apple unless it is sold refurbished.

Wether it's worth it is going to be different for each person. For me, it was well worth it - a brilliant phone. As other have said we're quite close to a new iPhone launch and I'd wait until then.

After being somewhat anti-iPhone X since it’s release, I took the plunge yesterday.

My SE had a faulty charging port that was deteriorating rapidly (it took 5 mins of getting the cord in just the right spot for it to charge each day), the loudspeaker was busted due to a drop a few months ago, and the microphone wasn’t great for work conference calls. I desperately needed a new phone ASAP. I was going to go with an 8, but figured I might as well spend a bit more and get the X as it would be a bit more future proof.

It’s incredible. The screen, the gestures, the no home button, the Face ID. Little things like how it hides your notification previews until you look at your phone (and Face ID unlocks it) make it overall just a great user experience. I was so skeptical of the FaceID until I got the phone and used it for myself. It’s actually amazing how well it works.

After just 24 hours, the SE feels like an ancient piece of tech. Kinda like my 2013 MBP did after getting the 12.9” iPad Pro last year.

Sure, it’ll technically be outdated in a few months, but that won’t make the X any less of a great phone. If you need it now, go for it. I’m loving mine.

... the only thing killing me is the no headphone jack/the dongle. So annoying. Guess I’ll be updating my headphones too soon!

Question 1: Ask yourself what do you like about the iPhone X? Is it Face ID, is it the new form factor, OLED display, camera, etc. What would compel you to want to upgrade now when in two months the new iPhone X will be announced, which I would wait if I were you to see what Apple has to offer then. Assuming your iPhone 6s is in the condition to make the wait until mid September.

At this point with the new iphones coming in September.....you should wait. This way you will have the latest iphone with the all the latest features. You could spend the time to really research what you want to do. Do you have any friends or family members that have the X you could play around with theirs to see if you like not having the home button.

That’s I’m looking for, improvement Face ID is must.
Are people having issues based on distance from the screen? Mine seems to work pretty good but there are issues like when I am in the car and it is in it's base and I look at it, sometimes I have to do it 3 or 4 times.

Get AirPods;
I got them and while they're great, the ease of use isn't even close to the one's you plug in. Can't just go "oh call is coming in let me plug them in and answer". They always have to be connected to Bluetooth in the background, pulled out of the case to use and are slow to initialize. Still too cumbersome for real every day uses outside of maybe working out IMO.

I use LG that sit around your neck and hang down, to turn on just one little click on the device so you just reach up to your neck and click it on also I dont have to take them out of my pocket, etc.

I would wait until September to see what they release, the worst case scenario is you decide you don’t want the updated one and you get a better price on the current model. And I would also say you should not look at it as an investment as it will depreciate immediately and you won’t be able to get all or even most of your money back out of it.

Really depends on your usage. I have my AirPods in my ears almost the whole day and when call comes I can just double tap on them to answer.

I just did, from a 7 Plus, 2 weeks back. I probably should have waited until the September announcement but Best Buy was giving too good a Fourth of July sale to pass up.

I can’t tell you if it’s worth the price I paid for it but I am very happy with mine and quite glad that I got it.

Personally I downgraded from iPhone 7 to the SE. last employer granted me the 8 (256GB) to keep. Gave it to my GF who upgrades from 6! Didn’t realize how nice the 8 was until she switched cases.

I upgraded last night to the X. Loving it!!
