I am debating returning my MBP 17" because I use it mostly at home.
I feel I am paying a premium for portability and not taking advantage of it.

I do mostly web development and like gaming and netflix.

I would be getting the 27".

Between windows and mac os, I only have about 100gig left.

Not sure what to do as the imacs have not been released yet.

I was thinking about getting a Macbook Pro instead of the iMac as well...and like you I realized that I also would not use the portability to my advantage. Sitting on the couch as opposed to the home office is not a big deal so I will be getting an iMac instead...and for the money the iMac will be faster hopefully as well

Most signs point to new iMacs next week. If next Tuesday is in the return window of your MBP, you can hold off on returning it until then. Otherwise, you'll need to make do without a computer for a bit (assuming you don't have any others).

Yeah if you're not using the 17" as a portable machine id definitely invest in a iMac. good desktop CPU and hopefully a decent GPU. more storage space and bigger screen for around the same price as the 17" or less depending on your config.

if you get the base $1999 config you can use that spare $ to get an ipad or something for portable use.
