Thinking of returning imac 27"

I lost my job, and figure I could buy a decent pc and save around 500 dollars if I return the imac.
It would not be on par to the 27" imac as far as display goes.

An HP or ASUS and Dell i7 would be around 1150.00 + display.
AMD PII would be cheaper.

I do some gaming, "Metal of Honor", ect.

Is it worth it, to keep it and spend the extra 500 dollars?

Depends on whether the Mac OS and that nice big 27" display are worth $500 to you.
 
Your financial condition is a personal matter and you'll have to decide for yourself whether you can afford the iMac. Aside from financial reasons, the other main consideration is whether you have a desire for Mac OS or Windows (or both)? Personally, I use both OSX and Windows 7 on my 27" iMac, so it seems to be the best of both worlds. But you get what you pay for.
 
Why not return the 27" and buy a 24" refurb for less than a PC + monitor?
 
I know there is a return window but I don't think you'll get away with no penalty fee of sort. If that's the case, I wouldn't get rid of it - you have it. I would look forward and trudge through it.
Just an opinion, nothing more.
 
I dunno, this seems like flame a bait thread to me. The OP says he lost his job, yet he's telling us that he's considering returning the iMac and getting a Windows machine and his criteria is a machine that does gaming....etc.. Maybe it's just me, but if I lost my job and I needed to return the computer I just bought the last thing I'm going to buy is another computer, especially one with gaming in mind. I thought the OP would at least mention that needed a really cheap computer so he can spend some time looking online for another job, but one that accommodates gaming? Okay...And he's asking US if it's worth keeping the iMac and spending the extra $500? Wouldn't he know the answer to his own financial situation? This is just another, Macs are too expensive, I can get a MUCh cheaper PC with the same specs type thread.

Don't know about flame bait, but it seems to me he either needs to return it or he does not. Can't see what posting about it accomplishes.

I am not trying to cause trouble. I need a good computer because I am a web developer and would need to keep up my skills. I mentioned gaming because my Son likes to game.

If I spec out a decent game system with windows 7, it would cost about as much as my imac did.

I probably will keep it, as I cannot find anything decent for 1400.00 unless I go HP or ASUS at Best Buy.

I also have a lot of software invested in Mac.

I guess I was just thinking out-loud.

The only thing that confuses me with Apple is the whole Blu-Ray thing.
Buying HD movies in itunes is the same cost as Blu-Ray these days.
With disks, I have a hard copy. With downloads, I will have a space issue at some point. I do not have a HD TV yet, but feel that that is the best route for entertainment.

I can save around 500 after a 10% restock fee, and get a pc that will not have as nice a display.

I'm sorry I started this thread, because unless you have been out of work for 7+ months, you might not understand my reasoning.

As I am writing this, the whole thing seems pointless now, as I already own it and should just wait until I have the funds again to move forward.
