So I installed the GM of iOS 8 on my iPhone 5 and I'm pretty disappointed with the stutter/lag. I realize it's might not be the finished product just yet but I have to say I'm not impressed.

I recently picked up a nexus 7 for next to nothing and I love it. Android has changed so much since I last used it. That being said I'm beginning to feel the itch for a bigger screen and I no longer have the need to pickup another flagship device; with a tablet and a laptop my phone doesn't need to do any crazy tricks or kick butt in benchmarks. if it can last a day on battery and snap a decent shot to share with friends on social media and not stutter and lag then I would be happy.

I'm thinking of switching to the new moto G; I like stock andoid the best asceticly and the promised fast upgrade to Android L is a plus. And the price is phenomenal. Does anyone have experience with this phone yet? I realize it's a recent release but reviews can be biased or not in depth enough. I realize I would be saying goodbye to LTE which might be a pain. And I'm interested in what the nexus x will be; but the moto g just seems like a really great bang for the buck.

There will be LOTS of used Moto X devices coming onto the market once the new one drops, maybe wait for one of those and grab it? I know it's not this year's specs but it's still a great device. The camera isn't the best but in daylight conditions it should shoot a picture you can share. The first-gen X will get L also, though maybe not a week after it's released.

The baseball stadium picture was taken with HDR turned on, the one of NYC was taken using Google's Panorama or Photosphere option (multiple pictures stitched)

The moto G is amazing bang for the buck. If you are looking to keep your upgrade costs low then that is the way to go.

I would advise against the Moto X solely because it has a 720 x 1280 display.

Nothing against motorola (or apple, whose new iphone 6 also has a ~750 x 1334 display), but if you are spending $350+ on a device then it should offer the latest and greatest.

1080 x 1920 is the current standard for anything with a screen larger than 4 inches.

The overall experience for me has been comparable to iOS 7 on an ip4. It isn't as laggy as some older versions of android but there is a noticeable delay in multitasking and opening apps and battery life is way worse. Things that weren't present in iOS 7 even in its betas. And that was a complete UI overall.

I believe the Nexus 5 is the best Android phone you can get. I am sure I will be debated on that but nothing beats the true vanilla Android and software support from Google that is nearly as great as Apple's support for iOS devices! One thing Apple does right is shipping software upgrades to devices uniformly and that is one qualm with Android. The Nexus is pure Google and I do like that a lot.

Out of curiosity, can you put a Verizon Prepaid Moto G onto a contract?

I think iOS 8 will get an update much like 7.1 was over 7.0 to greatly improve performance. I agree the performance is still a bit lacking even on my 5s which even a year later is no slouch!

How much did you pay for your Nexus? I got a Dell Venue 8 3830 and I am really considering switching to Android next go round.

The thing with switching is consider what you gain and what you lose.

When I went from the 5S to S5 I gained a lot.

Big screen
HD
Micro SD card
Big battery life
Better keyboard (swift key)
Better DAC
Greater stability over iOS7

What did I lose...
Facetime
iMessage
iCloud
Ecosystem
App selection
OS fluidity
User experience
Access Shared private photo albums built up over the past couple of years
Device compactness when running and working out

Mind you, I figured I'd go back to the iPhone at some point, and experimenting with the S5 is no big deal. But it's been good, and not I'm in no rush to get another iPhone.

So just figure out what is more important between the gains and loses.

The real thing is the Nexus 5 suffers from the usual issue with the Nexus Lines of "sub-par camera"

That is something I do not value as much as others as I was fine with an iPhone 4 camera. Granted, everybody will have their own opinion on the matter. Do you think the new Nexus will fix the shortcomings?

The Nexus 7 was about $120 refurbed on eBay. Its amazing. Snappy, light weight and it definitely feels like a quality tablet. The camera is useless and the battery isn't mind blowing but definitely one of the best deals out there.

Good to know! I was deciding between iPad 4th Generation, iPad Mini, and Nexus 7 and got the Mini for $150. Pretty good so far!
