I have a CD1 white MB which is currently around 6 mos. old. I have the 2 GHz CPU and a gig of RAM. I want to swap mine for the MBP for the obvious reasons, backlit keyboard, more screen, video card for gaming, all of that, and a larger hard drive as I am having trouble with boot camp. How much would that all cost, in the run as far as cost from apple after getting my macbook back to them? my bday is coming up soon so that makes getting some of the extra money easier. thx!

umm, are you planning on returning your current machine? Apple doesn't take tradeins, as far as I know. Do better to sell the CD in the forums, on ebay, or Craigslist, then get the MBP. Good luck!

What is it that you truly meant? Apple doesn't take trade ins, so how the hell are you going to get a free Macbook Pro after sending your old Macbook to them? Apple would be happy to dispose of your computer in the trash upon receipt, but I fail to see how it will influence the purchase price of your next machine if at all.

You can probably get a refurbished Macbook Pro (not the latest model though) for $1349. So let's say you sell your old Macbook for ~ $650 or so it is another $700 top up to get the Pro.
$650 - $700 for a Macbook is fairly reasonable for a Macbook on eBay since even refurbs can be had for little more than that - with full 1 year warranty.

Upgrade the HD yourself. It's not that hard to do. Google it and you'll find pictures of how to do it. If you buy an enclosure for the old drive, you can use it for backup, and clone it to the new one as needed.

There are plenty of "I tried to upgrade my own hard disk and ended up with a warped top case that wouldn't screw shut" threads around, we really should not goad another guy to do the same
haha yeah...well thanks for the information, please excuse the bad grammar, where it applies, as typing quickly, I often overlook things. I am more a desktop kind of person...in an upgrading and building sense, it's just that I have never done this with a laptop before.
