Thinking of trading in my MacBook Pro for iMac and iPad

Hey everybody. I need some advice.

I am thinking about selling my mid 2009 15" MacBook Pro and then getting an i7 iMac and an iPad. Do you guys think this is a good plan? Would any of you steer me away from it?

Just some background on what I do. I will be using Final Cut, Compressor and After Effects a lot in the near future and my MacBook Pro just isn't cutting it.
 
That's what I was thinking. All I use my laptop for on the go right now is e-mail, internet, etc... Plus my school has a lab full of Mac Pros that I can use.
 
Go for it!

It's a great setup. I had a regular MacBook and moved to a iMac / iPad combo. I still have the MacBook, but besides just starting it up once every few months to do updates I can't really say I've used it for anything important.

The iPad is a fantastic mobile device and has replaced my laptop in 99% of the situations I used it away from my desk. I do graphic/web design (CS4) and the extra horsepower on the iMac is a godsend. I think you'll be very happy with that setup.
 
Another question. I was interested in the secondary SSD but I don't need 256gb nor do I want to spend 600 dollars. Is there a way to install it myself? I just want to have 64gb or so for the OS and Applications.

who would trade an old MBP with a core 2 duo for a new i7 imac AND an ipad? max you'll get is 1300-1450 and a usable i7 imac would run at least 1900 combined with an ipad at 600 with taxes for a total of at least 2300 for cheapest config...doesn't seem like dishing out an extra 1000 for something you don't really need is worth it.

I think your statement is a little misinformed. I should let you know a little about the MacBook Pro.

It is a 15.4" Unibody 2.66ghz Core 2 Duo (Mid 2009)
I have upgraded the Ram to 8GB and I installed a Seagate Hybrid 7200RPM 500GB Drive as well.
It also has AppleCare until August 2012. So I think I can get more than 1400 considering those stock on ebay go for 1700.

Also, I do need this. Didn't you read that I was doing work with Final Cut and After Effects. Unless you've used After Effects on a MacBook Pro don't come in here and tell me what I do or do not need.

Thanks everyone else for your solid advice. Computer is up on Craigslist as we speak.
 
I sold my MBP 15" for a Imac 21.5" and ipad

Then soon after like 3 months sold the 21.5" for a i5 27" but it hurt my eyes..

So now using a i3 21.5" and ipad...love it

I have the items in my signature, including an i7 iMac, an i7 MacBook Pro and an iPad.

Of those three items, it is the MacBook Pro that gets the least use...by far.

If that tells you anything.
