I'm been thinking about doing something like this for a while now and that is to import a flagship device in either direction from say LG or Samsung (if they'd sell me one since I'm in the us) or off Amazon.

My reasoning is, well, updates, unlockable bootloader (?) And most of all lack of carrier imposed crapware.

Obviously there are some issues doing this, major one is just getting a literal brick in the mail, lack of support from handset manufacturers, lack of supported bands and could only halfway work on a gsm network.

And this is fine, I usually don't chat or anything like that on my phone's anyway and do have other devices I could play musical sim cards with. For the most part these would be pocket wifi tablets that I might be able to tinker with. Obviously I got a little time to do some research and think until the note 9 drops

Have any of you picked an import up to give a whirl? How was the experience? Did the device seem more yours and?

I used the website called Clove to import a GSM unlocked Moto Z Play a little over a year ago. I wanted the white and gold model and Motorola only sold the GSM unlocked color combination here in the States. It worked flawlessly with AT&T (carrier who I had at the time) and I'd import a phone using them again. Quick shipping, smooth experience, sold it for about $100 more because it was that color combination, too. I've since switched to Verizon and I miss the fact I can import and use anything.
