Can someone confirm what I read about Apple may have to open its doors to third party apps in 2024. I heard the reason why Apple didn't allow third party app was because they were collecting, and still are, 30% earnings from the developers to sell on the App Store. If it is true that would be amazing, for it would mean I can customize my iPhone the way I want it.

It always was open on the Mac.
Maybe you meant to post in the iPhone section? There Apple might need to open the system, but only if you are in the EU. We will see if Apple will also open it elsewhere even if they don't have to. (I doubt it though)

edit: seems like this thread got moved to "iOS Apps and Apple Arcade", when I wrote the above it was in "Mac Apps"

You can download any app from the web ( that's what I understand form 3rd party apps ) on the Mac. On the iPhone you can only download form App Store.
