received the mac pro and was shocked that apple did not provide a power cable inside for adding extra data drives(plugs for 2)
The plug inside for sata power is not a plug or cable that is easy to get

Instead you are forced to buy the drive assembly that holds 3 drives and has the right cables for 199.00
also i am running windows 10 boot camp my question is will it run windows 11

What year Mac Pro? You said "Apple" didn't include anything—and you posted in the 1,1-5,1 section, implying that it is a used Mac Pro. Is this correct, or is it a 2019 Mac Pro?

Also, what do mean by "power cables?" It has a backplane with SATA and SATA Power.

No, the 1,1-5,1 will not boot Windows 11. I don't think even the 6,1 will.

Which has been true since launch and was initially worse because you had to buy a $399 sata adapter and a non-optional 8TB hard drive of unspecified brand. Promise J2i.

@jscipione So the OP is implying they have a 7,1 but posted with the wrong prefix? Then unfortunately I don't have an answer/solution... 7,1s are not my thing.

i don't understand the prefix thing its a new mac pro just got it sept 20 2022 , they said it was not problem installing extra sata hard drives in fact 3 of , but there is only 2 sata ports on the inside and a non standard plug for drive power which has been a night mare to get, unless you want the whole assembly at 199.00

I have a 7,1. Not sure where they got 3 drives from, I have two SATA drives in mine, and yes you'll need the assembly to do it. The cables are a bit tight but it all works.

The prefix thing is something you set when you make a post, it is optional, but it would not have the "MP 1,1 - 5,1" on your post unless you set it... What you wanted to set it to would have been the "MP 7,1" option...

A screenshot of it open in the "Post thread" interface...

The incorrect prefix setting and not identifying the specific product you were asking about seems to be what is causing confusion...

The MP 1,1 - 5,1 had the SATA data & power connections as part of the backplane, so one just plugged the drive into the backplane connection itself, no cables needed...

MP SATA backplane.png

The "sept 2022" in the thread title seems to make folks think MP7,1 though; so same folks would naturally think of the Promise Pegasus J2i drive bracket ($399, holds two drives, includes a 8TB SATAIII 3.5" 7200rpm HDD)...

The Sonnet Fusion Flex J3i adds the ability for a third drive (2.5" SSD only, unless you use a 2.5" HDD that is not too thick to fit) and utilizes the internal USB port (usually used for a USB software license dongle) along with their USB-3 to SATA data/power adapter cable to do so...

IMO, if you are paying $6K for a Mac Pro, $200 for the bracket & cables is not too bad...?

Especially when you consider the Promise solution is twice the cost, holds one less drive (so one less cable as well), and the included drive could be valued at $100...

Yeah, the Sonnet solution is the better deal...

Just thought i would mention, when i bought the mac pro, apple could not help me find a plug for the extra sata internal hardrive power,
after a lot of research I found a company called MODDIY gave them all the info and measurements and they made me one
so now I have my internal drives set up
total 10tb
Very reasonable cable took about 1.5 weeks and works perfect

Honest question. Is there a reason you chose this route over the J2i which includes the official mounting bracket and cables? Is it just costing? You also lose the ability to expand your PCI slots by mounting the hard drives there. I have my PCI slots fully occupied with PCIe cards (e.g. NVMe drives), while the J2i serves to mount the SSD and HDD drives.

I gave up that space as so far I don't see a need for any further cards but nothing is permanent just a tight fit

But why did apple make it so difficult , my old mac pro 2009 had 4 drawers for 4 sata drives
simple to add on, apple's answer to my question and having trouble getting sata power was i should have bought a bigger drive when ordering, and no tech staff could sort this out
sorted now working fine

inside your DSDT
I lucky and able to getting empty J2i enclosure + combined data / power cable only for $21.90 !! Avoided unnecessary $579.00 with 8TB spinners which I am never going to use !!

I plan to put SATA SSD on it. Spinners belongs to NAS and external RAID array, I don't want any mech hard drive inside my working tower.

Yes this stink, Apple should include empty Pegasus J2i cage + cable as default with 7,1 instead of additional purchase. All previous tower doesn't need to shell out money just for adding internal SATA drive.
