...To switch to a Mac. For 2 weeks I tried downloading to my PC a video.. I have been hasseling for DAYS to download it... I'm TIRED of it.

I have the money.. I have a bit of fears though..

The Mac Mini does not seem like a good bang for the buck...
Will it be good for video editing? Photo editing *basic editing*

I know that if I add up to 2gb of memory.. it will top the price of an iMac...

But the problem is.. I already have a keyboard, a mouse, I JUST bought a new, BIG LCD screen, and I have another one sitting around...

Advice? Answers?

Meh.. I really don't need a Laptop... I really need a Desktop computer.

And also... If I get a mac mini, what would be cool would be to use a KVM to switch between the :apple: and the (ah there's no poo smilie).

I'm calling the cops
I would seel the screen(or get a refund if you still can) and get an iMac. iMac's are the best bang for your buck. Yet it has been rumored that Apple is going to roll out some new ones very soon.

Here's what you do, get the iMac and hook the 22" LCD up as a second screen. Make sure you get a Mini DVI to DVI adapter or Mini DVI to VGA if that's what your screen uses.

The mini is good for every day tasks, but I wouldn't try to do video editing on it (hard drive's too slow) basic photo editing would be fine though.

Do remember that if there is a problem with the server that the movie file is coming from switching to a Mac will not solve your download issue.

I suggest waiting for Leopard and the Santa Rosa platform. It's up to you if you want those features or not. If you can't wait, how about these macs choices:

Refurbished iMac 17-inch 2.0GHz Intel Core 2 Duo SuperDrive
1GB (2x512MB) 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM (PC2-5300)
160GB Serial ATA hard drive
Slot-load 8x double-layer SuperDrive
ATI Radeon X1600 with 128MB GDDR3 memory
Built-in AirPort Extreme and Bluetooth 2.0
Built-in iSight Camera and Apple Remote
• Save 13% off the original price
Original price: $1,199.00
Your price: $1,049.00

or if you can afford it, I recommend this:

Refurbished Power Mac G5 Quad 2.5GHz
Two dual-core 2.5GHz PowerPC G5 processors
1.25GHz frontside bus per processor
1MB L2 cache per core
512MB of 533MHz DDR2 SDRAM (PC2-4200)
250GB Serial ATA hard drive
16x SuperDrive (double-layer)
NVIDIA GeForce 6600 with 256MB GDDR SDRAM
• Save 19% off the original price
Original price: $3,299.00
Your price: $2,699.00

PPC is not dead and you'll get good resale value out of it when you plan to sell. If you do decide to get the PowerMac, upgrade the RAM to at least 1GB.

Though I have a Mac mini, I would say go with an iMac. You can always use your monitor you have now with your iMac and have a killer dual-setup. I don't think you'd regret getting an iMac over a Mac mini.

I just got a Mini. My dad has a G5 Imac. I would never get a IMAC. Only improved graphics a little. And more HD space. I just use an external HD. So nothnig really needed in a Imac for me. And it's not user serviceable either. It's hard to open the case and change memory and HD, etc. Mini isn't either but at least the screen is replacable. The Apple Store guy said the screen is about a 1,000 dollars repair. It's not worth it just for the builtin screen.

Thanks,
ivnj

Yes, but do remember I intend to use it for video editing, and photo editing, among others. So along the Mini will have integrated graphics.. I think I'll say no to the Mini.

But good news, with my part time job, I should make (and that is a pessimistic prediction) 900$ by WWDC.

Imac has intergrated graphics also. Only the Pro model doesn't.

Thanks,
