Apparently, a free app hit the app store called Emergency Distress Beacon and as described, "Take this program with you whenever you go to a remote destination. Do you hike or backpack alone? This is a must have application."

What i find funny is that this will email your gps coordinates to your buddies, but whe you're in a "remote" location, can you really expect to have a cell signal to email out your coordinates? :)

You'd be surprised at the number of remote places you can find cell signals at.


hard to believe considering the number of urban places where i can find dead zones where there is no cell signal
