Hi guys,

My wife and I have 2 user accounts on our Mac. I use one. She uses the other. Each of us have our own iTunes accounts and ID's.

She started using Apple Music downloaded several songs on her phone. She went into her iTunes account on the Mac turned on iCloud Music Library in the settings. But she got the following message saying it's already associated with an Apple ID and then "If you download past purchases with your Apple ID, you cannot auto-download or download purchases with a different Apple ID for 90 days."

I'm assuming this means that if I then go into my user account on the Mac and then into my iTunes I will be stuck for 90 days, is that correct? If so, what have we done wrong? And how can we both access our Apple Music accounts?

I had this problem, had to phone Apple in the end, only way to sort it out.
I also spoke to Apple today. I was flat told that 2 Apple Music users can't log into Apple Music on any device. Even if you have 2 user accounts on a Mac!

So are you guys using 1 profile on the Mac?

Nope. I have my own user account on the mac pro. And my wife has her own user account. We also have 2 separate Apple Music accounts. Although we've both now cancelled our subscriptions!

I don’t get why having 2 separate accounts like that. Is there any benefit doing this?

Each individual should have their own user account on a Mac. It’s a multi-user system by design. That allows you have your own email, bookmarks, preferences, etc. so if you like your dock on the bottom and I like it on the left, it’s ok. If you like a different desktop than me, it’s ok. If you like different dock icons than me, it’s ok. And so on.

As chabig said above, plus for ease of use. My wife has work documents. I have work documents. She has her own Photos library as do I. It's all much more organised and simpler to have separate accounts.

Ah,... .. Somehow Apple thinks your machine has a different serial number for the account you use by this other Apple ID.. You can up to 10 devices assosiated

You can remove an associated device under Manage Devices when viewing your account, but the 90 days will stick...

I read it that you each had 2 accounts each... One that you use, and one for Apple Music.

I don't understand. Sorry. So by adding a device, how would it resolve the ID issue?
