However the low end Mini uses a ULV processor from the MacBook Air, the higher end ones use processors from the MacBook Pros.

That means they're all mobile processors and platforms.

I imagine we will see Quad core processors again but probably not until Skylake in late 2015. Hopefully then we will have thunderbolt 3 for a 5k external display.

1) unlike the last gen, this quad requires its own socket, so it's own motherboard

2) unlike the last gen, this quad uses huge watts, requiring special cooling

If true, then the way to determine if the next mini will have a quad is to find out if the next quad chip will have these issues.

No hope in site. Mini Broadwell CPUs = Y/U/H
Y= VERY low power - all dual
U= Mini target - all dual that I can find reference to
H= greater than the magical 35W TDP that apparently MUST be in the mini

So unless Apple goes with the innards matching the 15" MBP, we are going to be seeing more of the pathetic same for the mini. Two motherboards is apparently too much for the supply chain wiz of the world to manage.

I agree, but Broadwell's main sell is it's decreased power consumption. I don't feel that small improvement will warrant another update. At least from Apple's point of view.
