Hi all

I've read the plethora of comments about the instability of the iPhone, and hoped that previous software updates would fix the problem.... but it's just getting worse and worse

My iPhone is incapable of maintaining a browsing session for a prolonged period of time....

-- if only Safari and iTunes are running, and I'm playing music, the browser performance is very very sluggish. As I sweep around the page with my finger, the music stutters and occasionally stops altogether

-- I regularly read and interact in web forums, which have a number of text entry boxes (a bit like this one). The text entry slows to a halt, then the browser eventually crashes. Without fail. So I lose the browser and everything I've spent 10mins writing, which is very very frustrating
It would appear the phone is running out of memory. How can I tell this, or work out whats running in the background?

-- When entering text, why doesnt the phone auto-capitalise the first letter of the a sentence? Has anyone else noticed this bug?

-- It annoying when the browser auto-refreshes the last page you visited when you go back into Safari. Maybe I didnt want a page refreshed and just wanted to continue reading something onscreen.

I bought my iPhone in the full knowledge that yes, there might be teething issues. But this has gone on way too long. I'm bored of having to restart the phone, I'm bored of restoring. Is there anything else I can try, short of sending it back?

Any help appreciated. Thanks for listening to my rant!

Fortunately I have never experienced this problem. Mine seems fine, and I have about 6 pages in the page browser and bounce between all of them frequently.

As far as the crashing sounds like you have other issues. Did you try a hard reset/shutdown? I know there can be memory leaks sometimes and some 3rd party applications have acknowledged this and sent updates. Sometimes a quick resetting/shutodown-restart helps. Try that and don't access any 3rd party apps. Run a test of iTunes (playing some music) then open safari and see if it still does it, if it does, take it back and exchange it. I've been running mine for about 15 mins now and posting on facebook, searching safari etc and nothing odd has happened.

Also, keep an eye on your network. If there's a glitch in the network connection or your on Edge yes browsing will be slow and clunky.

The cap thing when interacting with web pages IMO is normal operation and not a bug since your keyboard on your computer doesn't auto cap the first letter there. In other apps it does yes I know and it should act the same through out especially if they are built in Apple applications. With that mentality I can agree, make it uniformed, but not expect it from 3rd party apps.

When you open your browser on your computer does it refresh or reload your home page? Sure it does. Same here. Safari isn't running in the background.

Now I can sympathize for sure. It has limited cache to store your page but maybe at best IMO it should when opened goto a home page and not the last page you visited. That would be better IMO. But for the refreshes, it stores some info on the cache but it will retrieve the information unfortunately.

It sure would be nice if the iPhone gave us some way to know this. I just love "guessing" what might be wrong with a piece of technology!

But as to the overall point, yeah... for me it is impossible to post on any message board using my iPhone. Simply browsing one is sometimes too much to ask of it.

I'm gonna uninstall all my apps tonight and see if stability improves. then add them back one by one. will let you know if I find out the culprit app that might be killing memory. my guess - facebook

Best of luck and, yes, let us know how it goes. You'll probably fix your problem, but most people don't have the patience for this. There should be a better way.
