this is my macbook air rev:A 1.6 80GB review,might help others

First i want to say that i have followed this forum for severel weeks so thanks for all the tips and tweaks!

This is my first mac,im not "leaving" windows,actually im very satisfied with Windows 7 and didnt have any problem with vista or previus ms OS, im not a fan boy i really don't care what OS system i run just aslong as it fits my needs.
My needs are ,writing,internet,music,videos and hooking it up to my samsung 1080p.

So after reading in this forum,everybody seemed to advise NOT to buy the macbook air rev:a so my search began to buy the reb:B refurbished but since they are very expensive in sweden compared to the states i found a refurbished macbook air rev:a for 974$ with the optical drive.
Its in mint condition,never left the house and the battery has run only 30 cycles.
This might sound overpriced but please remember that in sweden this is a very good price since apple doesn't sell refurbished mba here.

I was very concerned since so many issues has been reported about the mba reva,"overheating core shutdown,lines,hinge cover and ticking hd noise."
Fortenelty my mba has not suffered by any of these issues(at least so far .
I bought coolbook witch i regret since i haven't even needed to use it.
The max temp has gone up to was 70C while it was connected to my tv,running several tabs with flash content in safari and msn.
My idle temp is 38-52c 1800rpm.
Playing 720p content from apple trailers works perfect also tried a 720p mkv sample via plex with no problem(the ones i have tested so far).
1080p video lags of course.
I have played hdtv rips like lost in plex for longer periods and the temp reched max to 65c.
some you tube clips has had "hiccups",not all.
Many claims that the reva is slow,honestly i feel the opposite way..maybe people have unreasonable expectations?remember its only 1.6ghz with 2gb ram so don't expect a Ferrari.

Well i have been using my mba for a week now,its not perfect but so for i love it.
There are some stuff in the OSX that i don't like such as cant maximize safari,pathetic that i need to install an add on to maximize a browser.

So for im pleased with my mba reva,i hope this "review" help anyone also sorry for my bad english =)

I am also planning to buy a new mac, and I do not know which to choose, air or
pro! But people all recommend me to purchase the new macbook pro, indicating that there might exists many occasionally problems in MBA now and then!!

well i just sold my REV:C SSD model due to the bad display! and it getting hot!

i'm very happy with my MBA rev:A 1,8ghz SSD model, it does everything i want it to and the display is gorgeous

I'll wait for REV when they finally upgrade the ram to 4gb^^

I would recommend reading a few recent threads in MacBook Pro forum about 13" MBP overheating. Seems it has revision A-like problem (way too much thermal paste), while newer Airs don't really overheat anymore. The only problem with current MBA models can be display - have a look at it in the store, if it's fine, buy there.

I had a rev A macbook, the screen was great but it did get super hot and the fans were constantly at 6200 rpms...i sold it a couple weeks ago and bought the 13.3 MBP and so far I love the PRO. the Screen is as good or better and my fans are usually aroun 2000 rpms or less unless i'm watching a video or something.

The maximise button in safari makes the window as big as it needs to be- what's the point in having the browser page take up the whole screen if half o it is just going to be the background colour?

why not? well for me it make everything easier to read since i dont have to "filter" information with my eyes while browsing on a page.
might sound strange but thats what i think

Emphasized the key words for you. Most people who say Air is so very bad are, in fact, speaking of revision A. It was actually fixed. It's a matter of individual preference which one you prefer, but there are no known issues except some defective screens with current Air.

Just to respond to your query: Like you, I have Rev. A HDD. And, like you, I have next to no problems with it. I use it primarily for writing and browsing the Web and occasional videos (from iTunes or Hulu). If streaming from Hulu, the machine gets warm and the fans kick on, but it doesn't stutter. I don't use Coolbook. It's a gorgeous machine with a stunning screen and suits me perfectly. I take it pretty much everywhere with me.

I agree as well. While I do understand the purpose of the green bubble, and that it is designed with multitasking in mind, Apple needs to stick a Maximize bubble somewhere. Sometimes you just want to be doing one thing at once, and have that single application taking up the screen.
