Here are my mid-July pics from the beach today taken with my brand spanking new camera.

These two photos were taken from the same spot:

The rest are just a few from today:

I can post bigger ones if anyone wants but the href tags from flickr don't seem to want to work on here.

I'm Australian, it's illegal for us to be anything but sarcastic...

Horrible mid-winter day, did you see the clouds in those photos? And it was cold too, a chilly 17°C/63°F. Almost too cold to go in, it's gotten so damned warm here in the winter we have lifeguards on duty all year round, I remember when the beaches were deserted in winter except for die-hard surfers catching the big storm waves.

Mind you, there's a reason I didn't post the ones from yesterday - it did actually look like winter.

Wow, that looks worse than winter here in New England. I feel for you, really I do.
I'll echo your comments, and actually mean it. For me (in New England) winter = SNOW. Anyone who wants to go surfing here in winter had better wear a dry suit, because you'll be hypothermic within minutes otherwise.

There's snow in the mountains about 4.5 hours south of here - just not that much at the moment as it's been a crappy start to the season. We're due a crappy one, the last few have been really good.

When the Olympics were on in Sydney I was skiing and watching highlights when I got home, not bad eh? Skiing and watching the Summer Olympics all in the one state.

Nice Pics, you should try to use the "rule of thirds" which means the main subject can be in the middle (like yours) or off to one side. When you make the main subject of the picture off to one side the picture is much more interesting. Just a thought.

Yeah, I'm aware of the rule, my LCD displays the third lines so most of the photos I took today do obey the rule, just seems that none of the ones I posted here do.

In the first one, the horizon is one third down from the top and the lighthouse is one third from the right.

She's a new camera so I'm just seeing what she's capable of - once I figure out all the little nuances I'll start getting artistic. I was just enjoying being able to take fairly detailed shots of the surfers a fair way out from my position about 75m or so back from the swash zone. Still can't get over how good the zoom is on this thing, my hands naturally shake so when I have my tripod handy the tele shots will look a lot better but for handheld point-and-shoot I think the one of the lighthouse is pretty good.

cool, love the light house,

you home sucks in winter, so stomy LOL

We're the only town on the east coast with two lighthouses.

You do realise today was a bit of an oddity, that's why there are so many people down there. Yesterday was raining, windy, cold, the beach was empty and visibility was closer than where the yachts are in the photo.

Today the sun came out for a few hours and the surfers and the regular folks zipped down for a swim so I zipped down with my camera to get some nice sunny photos as the ones from yesterday, whilst pretty good on their own, were very dreary.

I guess I feel bad for you in the winter. Don't know why though. Hot weather all year round. Up here we get like a foot of snow and below freezing temperatures. Great pics also.

It must be very boring to have the same weather day after day year after year. ;)
