Going from Beta to Big Sur...

First off, software update doesn't offer anything.

Then I turn Beta off, and I'm offered RC2 @ 2.2Gb.

OK, fine - but nothing happens, and then I notice the Beta notice ("this mac is enrolled...") is present again.

Click it off, and again I get offered RC2@ 2.2Gb.

This time it downloads, and takes a long time in "preparing" mode.

Finally it tells me via notification that we need to reboot. OK, I select reboot and.... nothing happens. Wait around a bit, and decide to select the update again, and it re-downloads the 2.2 Gb of update.

This time when I get the reboot notification, I select it and wait it out, and after maybe 30 seconds (with no indication anything is going on at all), it reboots.

Finally, I get to the login screen. Log in, and.... nothing. Oh wait, not nothing, but the screen fades to black and the system becomes unresponsive for about 15 seconds. Start to press the power button and it wakes up and it's going through the setup phase, asking me if I want Siri enabled and so on. But I never get to the desktop, it says a reboot is required.

What is this, Windows ME?

Long story made a bit shorter, I went through another upgrade process to 11.0.1 with all the same issues as above (but at 3.2Gb).

This is sloppy. I'm going to blame COVID and it's impact on system testing, but this is disheartening. We're going backwards fast on software upgrades.

You don't beta upgrades without massive testing ahead of time, for obvious reasons.
