Galaxy Fold 2. Now that the main display is like an actual phone, it's so worth it.

OMG...might have get this when it comes out!
Samsung really is pushing the envelope here.

I told myself I am waiting for the Microsoft Duo, but this looks like it is going to blow that out of the water.

I remember how jazzed folk were when they first heard about the original Fold. That didn't turn out too well.

Personally I'm going to wait until it's in the hands of the idiots who love to test gizmos to breaking point. Then we'll see how good it really is.

In addition, the world has changed dramatically since the Fold came out. Apple have already met that change with a $399 iPhone. In a economic post Covid-19 Phase I world I have to ask, are we ready for a $1,500+ flagship?

This likely isn’t coming until sometime later this year, about the same time as the next iPhones. An iPhone 11 Pro Max 512GB already costs $1449. Considering a new design with 5G, I highly doubt Apple will be dropping prices on their next flagships so device that’s actually quite a bit more versatile for a similar price doesn’t seem that outlandish. This phone was never intended for the masses.

Well we shall see. Right now we've zero clue as to Apple's intentions, but it's not inconceivable to me that they'll drop prices on the new 12 rather than meet or even raise them.

They've horribly deep pockets, they could easily afford to take a loss in iPhone 12 sales if they feel they can make it up elsewhere.

Not a chance. Redesign, 5G, etc, the price will not be lower, it may stay the same. Even Apple can't take a loss on iPhone sales.

Agreed. Also one needs to consider Apple is making a fraction of their expected revenue/income since March due to this worldwide crisis as well as donation large amounts AND continuing to pay all of their retail employees during this shutdown. There is little to no chance that their next phone offers will be cheaper than their current products. The iPhone SE is the product for customers with budgetary concerns. Their new products will be as expensive as they’ve ever been.

And in regards to Samsung offering a very expensive flagship—they’re already do it, including the products they just released last month. The Galaxy S20 Ultra starts at $1399 and has a higher priced $1599 option. The Z Flip is $1380 while there is a special Thom Browne Edition for $2480. Again, this phone isn’t for the masses, just like any other premium smartphone isn’t for everyone. There will alway be consumers who are price insensitive and that’s who’ll buy this phone, regardless of the condition of the worldwide economy.

I don't think the S pen will come out for the Galaxy fold. The screen is just too fragile still... I can imagine people breaking their screens on day one because of the pen... Poking the screen too hard will give Samsung bad results. It would be safer on real glass imo.

No, I'm not ready.

But there are still people with jobs and no other responsibilities who can continue with purchases like these. I fully intend to drool over their shoulder if they get one of these and share it with the forum. 😬

Get ready to drool as I will be upgrading my Fold to one of these :)

I too believe if there is an Spen it would be limited to the front screen as my wife's Z-Flip screen is not robust enough for pen inputs

While the hole punch is welcome as quite frankly the current camera cluster on the main screen was just overkill by Samsung.

I also doubt the in screen fingerprint reader is required or would be convenient as you still need to unlock the front screen when folded, so the current side unlock reader is a natural action for both screens

I also hope they minimize the new S20's camera cluster domino for the Fold v2

However its seems all we are seeing here is renders interpreting both S20's and Z-Flip features in the Fold format

I doubt with upgrades and 5G that the Fold V2 will be sub $2k any more than Apple's flagship will be sub $1.5k if anything like we have seen with small batch release phones they come with premium prices due to overheads vs volume of production

GF2 will still be out of my price range, but it looks like a solid device. I think the Galaxy Fold 3 in 2021 is when sales will really start to take off. Get it down to a reasonably priced $1,200, then it will catch on with the masses. I'm liking it, though.

When the prices become more affordable, I can see a lot of people buying Folds. Even if you like iOS, how could you not appreciate more innovation Samsung provides? By the time Apple provides a foldable display phone, who knows what would be the next echelon of experimental tech? Right now, the foldable display tech is more in its infancy.

I do not understand why some think prices will reduce. 10 years of Iphones and sticker price has not dropped, just lessor models introduced.

I expect the same on the Fold. The lower storage option hinted at 256GB may also not have 5G for example and so be cheaper than the top tier . Maybe no included wireless buds too will help

But given the difference the bundled between the Fold and top spec Iphone 11, like for like was only ~$200 I expect the Iphone to go up relative to the Fold
