I'm blown away by this watch.. I admitting don't know if it's vapor ware or not, but consider me highly intrigued. This company went above and beyond to create something no one else has made. And as someone who wears watches on a regular basis, this is FAR more appealing than anything I've seen from a astetics perspective.

Agreed--I found this product about 6 months ago when the 360 was announced and linked to it then. Based on the promotional video and renders, it looks amazing and will offer versions using both Android Wear and their own OS (compatible with Android or iOS). The hardware alone looks stunning.

Unfortunately, mattopotamus may be right. The original delivery estimates were 4th Qtr 2014 and now it looks like delivery has been pushed back 6 months. I'm genuinely intrigued by these watches but I'm not committing to anything until we get to actually see some hardware in action.

I get its a luxury product, but there are multiple watches from trusted makers that you can get for that price, Maybe not the smart watch bit, but a luxury watch is something you keep for years on end - and as someone who likes to invest in watches - I don't see this being a very good investment purely because of how quickly the software might go out of date.

Totally agree with what you just said - but thats exactly my point as well. The Moto 360 is $250 and the Apple Watch is $350. They're not really luxury products in my view, just a functional extension - it would never replace a $1k watch in my books. You use them for a 1-2 yr cycle and then spend another $250-$350 get the next gen when it comes out with better features.

With the Kairos you are dropping $1K to use the smartwatch features for a year or two and then it will become obsolete and just remain a regular analogue watch - when you can get much better watches from trusted makers at that price point (that will last much longer).

That is pretty sick, very nice. Personally I've gotten away from the fashion first viewpoint on these smartphones, and admittedly I was one of the staunchest supporters of fashion first. The Gear S made me change my mind and realize I didn't want to cram a smartwatch into something not optimal. A round screen just isn't as optimal as a square or rectangular screen IMO, that's why smartphones, laptops, tablets, etc don't have round screens.

Some may call the Gear S a bit ugly, large or square shaped but this means it doesn't lose functionality. If anything I'm impressed they squeezed in MORE functionality than any other major OEM smartwatch out there by making it a standalone phone with its own sim card, and for the same price as less capable smartwatches. I'm impressed more and more with it every day. Samsung does have some improvement to go in styling though, namely a nicer watch band, at least leather if not metal. They can also replace the plastic of the case with a nicer material. But the form is perfect IMO.

That's my major dislike as well, Tizen. If Samsung went with Android Wear I'd be much happier. There are no apps at all on Tizen. I don't see anyone else duplicating the functionality of the Gear S though.

I'm coming around to the Apple Watch. When it was first revealed, I cringed ; but now, it appears that the various bands and versions will allow for some decent customization and look. A watch is a very personal thing to wear so fashion is a big selling point.

I have the moto 360 now and it's a wonderful device, but I'm counting the days when a decent metal band drops.

I don't think a mechanical watch hybrid is the way to go. I like the ability to change watch faces on the fly and design my own, which you can easily do on the Moto 360. Apple is on the right track.
